Since November 2009, B’Tselem has received testimonies from dozens of Palestinian residents of the Bethlehem and Hebron districts, most of them minors, alleging that they were subjected to threats and violence, sometimes amounting to torture, during their interrogation at the police station at Gush Etzion. The station is located within the jurisdiction of the SHAI (Judea and Samaria) District of the Israel Police. The testimonies describe interrogations in which the minors were forced to confess to alleged offenses, mostly stone-throwing. In almost all cases, the interrogators stopped using violence against the interrogatees once they confessed.
The right of every person not to be subjected to ill-treatment or torture (whether physical or mental) is one of the few human rights that are considered absolute. As an absolute right, it may never be "balanced" against other rights and values, nor suspended or limited, even in difficult circumstances such as war or fighting terrorism. This right now holds the highest and most binding status in international law. A confession obtained through violation of this right can certainly not serve as the basis for a conviction.

While I agree with the fact that torture is not right, and this is only alleged torture, what do you think about this that I just read in another thread...

When you are dealing with people this crazy, whether you like it or not, you might not always stay within the rules... your enemy sure isn't...

So, just for fun, imagine this.

The closest person in the world to you (mother, sister, wife etc.) has been kidnapped! You've tracked down one of the kidnappers because they left their wallet behind. The bastard refuses to talk and tell you to go to hell. You don't have the million in ransom because they kidnapped your ??? by accident, thinking you were rich.

Would you torture this guy until he spilled the beans? Would you break his fingers one by one? Would you stun-gun him over and over? Would you pop one of his eyeballs out? Or would you sit there silently, musing on the injustice of it all?

I'm not supporting torture like we've done at Guantanamo. I'm referring to an immediate situation. In Vietnam, we'd toss one out of the chopper and the other ones would loosen up.

Then why brink it up?
Because I believe there are enough people who think that way described in my article there and in other similarly "religious" countries that act this unreasonable... and sometimes you have to take that on. We live in a pretty tolerant and civilized country and it is hard for us to imagine what living in close proximity to people who think like this would engender... comprende'?
