Top Democrats tell supporters to ?stand up and fight?, as anti-Trump protests turn ugly | South China Morning Post

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a lodestar for liberal Americans, urged supporters to resist Trump.
“You can either lie down, you can whimper, you can pull up in a ball, you can decide to move to Canada, or you can stand your ground and fight back and that’s what it’s about,” she said on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. “We do fight back. We will stand with those who are here who were told, come out of the shadows, we welcome you. We will stand with them. And we will stand with them every day. That’s what we have to do.”

From the South China Morning Post (one of Southern China and SE Asia's most widely read English newspapers).

Seems like the previous tone here in Asia (against Trump, for Clinton) is not only waning fast, but many less-democratic countries are beginning to use the Democrats as an example of the failures of democracy.

They definitely appear to be trying to make it look like Warren is fomenting open rebellion.

Not sure where they think it gets them, though.

Isn't this just an 'I reject democracy and the election rules of the Republic because I don't like how the election turned out / didn't get what I wanted' ?

Frankly, they should take a lesson from all those who legitimately opposed Obama in '08 and '12, and NOT protest / riot. Besides, from what I've heard and read, these are mostly paid for professional protesters / rioters, in the pay of the usual suspects who have an interest in causing problems, i.e. Soros, et. al.

Re: Top Democrats tell supporters to ‘stand up and fight’, as anti-Trump protests tur

The thing is that, over here they are systematically linking these riots with the Chinese government's crackdown against pro-democracy separatists in HK (which a vast majority already know to be a bunch of idiots, but that's not the point), the (so far) peaceful protests against Park in S. Korea, and even in the Thai Junta's case against "democratization" of the country (a couple Thai newspapers have linked to this article in the SCMP). In these cases, it's the people in power that are using this to fuel crackdowns against dissent.

It's not a good look for American democracy. Not only do the Democrats look like hypocrites to us, but they are empowering people in Asia (for good or bad, depending on your point of view) in cracking down on free speech and the right to protest.

There is one obvious thing that Republicans do successfully that Democrats need to emulate, which is concentrating on the small stuff. By focusing on governorships (largely ignored as a priority by the dnc) as well as all the zillions of counsel chairs, Democrats can start to build the kind of groundwork that Republicans absolutely dominate at.

Then there is the really hard thing that Democrats are killing themselves on. While it's true that the demographics are shifting toward greater numbers of minorities, that only means anything in a popularity contest. With the electoral system that shift means jack and squat because liberals are moving to the cities in droves, thereby eliminating their numerical advantage. If the left really wanted to take back all three branches of government, they stay in the country.

There's something wrong with her.

Maybe she and Harry Reid could run off together. Soon.

You could be right. However, I think the dems lost the election because they promised more of the same when 75% of the population said the country is headed in the wrong direction. Addressing what voters want - change in this case - is usually a good political move.

Groundwork like using state legislative power to suppress voter turnout for the other guys?

You can't have strong down ballot offices and a dictatorship, too. Therefore, the Left will never show any strength in that area.

The left has become mentally unhinged.

they lost and they just can't handle it.
their nonsense has been rejected by voters and
they simply cannot come to terms.

You lost the popular vote so stop pretending you have a mandate.

Which is meaningless.

In terms of the Electoral College, yes.

In terms of where the country is heading, no.

The ec did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Make all states viable.

Maybe if Clinton had campaigned in certain places instead of just
Counting them in her column she might have one.

She never went to WI, barely went to MI, and PA.
What do you expect?

Keep up the fight, Elizabeth.

Governments that ignore the will of the populace, do so at their peril.

Re: Top Democrats tell supporters to ‘stand up and fight’, as anti-Trump protests tur

You lost the popular vote so stop pretending you have a mandate.

remind me how that matters. How many congressional districts voted for Trump vs the lying Bitch. You seem to think some high density concentrations of voters in liberal echo chambers like NYC or SF matter more than the fact that most of the country voted red. The GOP has more governors, more congressmen, more senators, more state legislators. Sounds like the creeping crud of collectivism didn't do all that well last week

Re: Top Democrats tell supporters to ‘stand up and fight’, as anti-Trump protests tur

Governments that ignore the will of the populace, do so at their peril.

The will of the people was upheld.
The majority of people in the states elected trump.

You want to silence their voice?
The only question is why?

Warren 2020

another angry 70 something (when she runs) wretch of a candidate. go for it. I suspect most Americans want someone who is for SOMETHING rather than running because they want to wreck or ruin something

Uhh, no, a majority of people did not elect Trump. A majority of electoral votes did.

Not the same thing.

They really can't handle losing.

Has society honestly become so mentally weak?

Re: Top Democrats tell supporters to ‘stand up and fight’, as anti-Trump protests tur

Fight against what?

capitalism, American values, corporate America, white men, several rights set forth in the Bill of rights

Lol no the majority of people in the states who vote for electorals did.
You don't win electorals unless the majority of people in the state vote for you to win them.

Yet another person that missed us government class.
