And never even mind the message ("Communism will win"), this boy's too dumb to serve.

From the Guardian:

A West Point cadet who wore a Che Guevara T-shirt to his graduation and posted a message online saying “communism will win” has been discharged from the US army.

The images Spenser Rapone posted on Twitter from his May 2016 West Point graduation were meant to shock: in one, he opens his dress uniform to expose a T-shirt with a red image of the socialist icon Che Guevara. In another, he raises his fist and flips over his cap to reveal the hand-scrawled message: “Communism will win.”

...An unrepentant Rapone summed up the fallout in a tweet on Monday that showed him extending a middle finger at a sign at the entrance to Fort Drum, accompanied by the words: “One final salute.”

Just how dumb is this guy? Dumb enough to keep the pics to himself after his 2017 graduation but then tweet them in support of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick...so he doesn't even understand the difference between free speech and communism.

Good. You cannot swear to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States AND seek to promote a violent revolution to overthrow and disestablish that Constitution and its government simultaneously. I am glad that they caught this reprobate and booted him from the military.

Personally, I do not think he is a stupid person. Stupid people generally do not get accepted into West Point. I just think he cleaved so tightly to an evil belief system and was filled with such youthful enthusiasm that he simply could not contain himself. Not too much unlike those young men who joined ISIS and were filled with such youthful masculine vigor to proclaim their faith and desire to go bloodily murder unbelievers and rape Yazidi girls.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

He reeks of being a spoiled little rich boy.

Uh.....communism is not against the law

He reeks of being a spoiled little rich boy.

Actually, he's from a poor background. He applied to West Point because they don't charge tuition. He enlisted and served in Afghanistan and was accepted to the academy from the ranks.
He might have to pay back the Army for his education, though, because he didn't finish his five-year committment.

No, it isn't. However, as an officer of the United States military you cannot swear to faithfully defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States and simultaneously directly (or implicitly) call for the Constitution's abolition. In much the same way you cannot swear to uphold the Constitution of the United of the United States, but pledge your unwavering allegiance to the Caliph of the Islamic State Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

I don't see in the article where he specifically did those things

I'm not sure that he considers getting a (better than free?) service academy education with no obligation to actually serve his active duty time being all that dumb.

That is pretty much implied by the statement "Communism will win" that he wrote on the inside of his officer's cadet cap. Again, to draw the comparison, not unlike a recruit writing "The Caliphate will be victorious" on the inside of their officer's cap.

I dunno. He could have just wanted out.

I have seen several of my shipmates go to extremes to get the ol' boot. Smoke pot just to fail urinalysis. Professing to be gay. One guy stripped off all his clothes and swung off the railing firing his P.O.O.W. service weapon in to the water.

They would go UA in the east coast and then turn their self in on the west coast just to get to get re-assigned to WesPac.

The military can screw up some minds. It ain't for everybody.

Glad he got out.

In the military, you cant openly support or advocate for MS13. You cant openly support and advocate for the KKK. And you cant openly support and advocate for communism. Hell...supporting Che ...thats kind of the multi-wammy...supporting communism but also supporting a guy that murdered artists and homosexuals...cant have that.

Never really been able to figure out why idiot leftists support Che. Must be that whole "failure to apply logic and reason" thing.....

Yes you can support communism. Communism is not illegal in the US and people run for political office as communists

Noo….that's not what he did. Communism is an ideology (one held by a definable sub demographic of tax paying American citizens), whereas the Caliphate is an entity, and an enemy.

Funny thing, the 1A is in the constitution he is sworn to defend. This is an interesting way of showing soldiers what their efforts and sacrifices have paid for... This was a mistake on the part of the dude, but a bigger mistake on the part of the military.

(I am not a communist, nor do I wish to see America adopt communism....just to get that out of the way.)

I agree. I think this guy is an idiot and deserved to be kicked out. But you can be a communist and be an officer in the army.

Either that or he found a bad ass girlfriend and a good job and thought "Hrm.... I better become a communist to get out of the army.."

Just because something is legal to engage in in the United States does not mean someone is qualified for military service. It is perfectly legal to be extremely overweight and out of shape. But if you cannot pass certain physical tests, you will be disqualified from military service. There is an American Nazi Party that calls for the extermination of non-whites, Jews and LGBT individuals in the United States. It is perfectly legal to be a member of that party and vote for that party. But people who belong to that party should not be allowed to serve in the United States military because, again, they directly or implicitly do not believe in upholding or defending the Constitution of the United States of America.

When someone takes their graduation ceremony as a platform to promote Che Guavarra.... They need to be kicked out of the military. Dont need him fragging friendly soldiers when noones looking.

You absolutely can be a communist in the modern US military. You can’t advocate for the violent overthrow of the government but if you want to bring about communist policies through regular legislative means then there is nothing barring that person from joining the military. But regardless of your politics you can’t being doing things like this cadet did in uniform.

I was discussing communism. I don't believe he ever said he was in the American Nazi party....did he?

And as I said, some ideologies that are legal to hold in the United States disqualify some people from service in the military. Communism as an ideology as it is typically defined with its stated goal of overthrowing existing governmental systems and establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat is incompatible with upholding the Constitution of the United States (and I think most self-declared Communists would agree with me on this). In much the same way that National Socialism and Fuhrerprinzip as an ideology is incompatible with upholding the Constitution of the United States; or believing in radical Salafism and desiring the dissolution of democratic governments in favor of the establishment of a Caliphate is incompatible with upholding the Constitution of the United States.

In other words, if you think the Constitution of the United States is worthless and desire to replace it with something you consider better, you are not fit for service.

No that is NOT how communism is defined. You are just wrong.

A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people.

I was discussing communism. I don't believe he ever said he was in the American Nazi party....did he?

I am drawing a comparison to illustrate that the principle is the same: If you think the Constitution is worthless and you want to replace it with something better (i.e., overthrowing our Federal Republic and establishing a Dictatorship of the Proletariat), you cannot be an officer in the United States military. Any more than you can swear to uphold than you can swear to uphold the Constitution while simultaneously wishing to replace our government with a Caliph or a Fuhrer.

If you wish to do so using legal means you most certainly can be an officer in the military. The constitution could be ripped to shreds if that is what the people want.

It can be but we’d call that a “Revolution” instead of “legal means”.

We can quibble with the proper definition of communism until the cows come home. I argue that being a proponent of Communism, whether by your definition or mine, is incompatible with faithfully swearing to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.
