Is our government derelict of its duty to secure our borders. There is no question about it.
Title 8 Chapter 15 deals with ENHANCED BORDER SECURITY AND VISA ENTRY
REFORM

Below is a snipit from USC Title 8 Chapter 15

ACHIEVING OPERATIONAL CONTROL ON THE BORDER

"(a) In General. - Not later than 18 months after the date of the
enactment of this Act [Oct. 26, 2006], the Secretary of Homeland
Security shall take all actions the Secretary determines necessary
and appropriate to achieve and maintain operational control over
the entire international land and maritime borders of the United
States, to include the following -
"(1) systematic surveillance of the international land and
maritime borders of the United States through more effective use
of personnel and technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles,
ground-based sensors, satellites, radar coverage, and cameras;
and
"(2) physical infrastructure enhancements to prevent unlawful
entry by aliens into the United States and facilitate access to
the international land and maritime borders by United States
Customs and Border Protection, such as additional checkpoints,
all weather access roads, and vehicle barriers.
" (b) Operational Control Defined. - In this section, the term
'operational control' means the prevention of all unlawful entries
into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other
unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics, and other
contraband.

"(c) Report. - Not later than one year after the date of the
enactment of this Act and annually thereafter, the Secretary shall
submit to Congress a report on the progress made toward achieving
and maintaining operational control over the entire international
land and maritime borders of the United States in accordance with
this section."

Who wrote these laws? Our legislators did. Why do they refuse to do what is necessary to achive Operational Control of our borders? In a word "Politics" Here are two more words to consider. Amnesty = Votes.

Dereliction of their duty would suggest that they just did not do their job. However the government is an accomplice in the 12-20 million plus illegals in this country. They are the equivalent of a security guard who lets in trespassers to do what ever they want, tells them how to get in, where the money is stashed, turns the alarm off for them, and threatens anyone who tries to stop the trespassers.

Past adminstrations have ignored the issue of illegals in the US. It is now coming to a head because of States like Arizona who are done waiting for the Feds to do their job. Obama stated he wants to hold people, employer and the feds accountable. Lets see, he has done very little to target illegals so far, DOJ supports the SC cases to overturn AZ employer sanction laws, and he is suing AZ over 1070 that targets illegals in AZ.

I have no faith that Obama and his gang will do anything productive. I have no faith that Congress will deal with the issue of illegals in a sound manner that is good for the US.

all those in favor of putting politicians who knowingly refuse to obey the law in jail say 'aye' :)

Aye..................

Another thing that's often ignored in the immigration debates and discussions are illegals from other regions besides Mexico and South America.

What European and other illegals do is come to the U.S. on a visa as a student, tourist etc etc and the just overstayed their visa.

While the border is extremely important we need to focus on the entire picture.

If these we could end these stupid wars and close bases overseas we would have millions of Marines, Soldiers and Airmen sent to the border. The Navy could help the Coast Guard secure the coasts.
