Time to close down the notoriously evil federal Department of Education.

The national numbers have generally turned to shit because of the red areas indifference to education. People in the blue areas know how to run schools, the people in the red districts would rather scream "you're not the boss of me" and cry about DEI. And they skew the national numbers.

Cutting up the safety nets and telling kids in poor and red areas "too bad" when they need Federal loans or grants for higher education or trade schools sounds like a great idea

Oh dood...your post is such total horseshit that it barely bears response. But if you actually cared about the truth, look at where the school districts have been a total ****ing failure. You will find them in every democrat run city across the country> Chicago...Baltimore...Detroit..on and on and on.

My user name is not "dood". Want to try again?

Is it just coincidental that it is the most uneducated, ignorant, naive, uninformed, conspiracy believing, anti-science folks who are the most likely to want to get rid of the Dept of Ed? Just asking?

Very top school is in a blue county in a blue state. Try facts instead of pure emotion and hatred.

Washington Examiner? That POS is worse than FAUX News. Try again.

The Department of Education is a one-size-fits-all solution to a 'problem' which never even existed.

Education is always handled better at the State, District and Local levels. The Department of Education had good intentions, but the reality is that education in the U.S. has declined a lot since it was formed in 1979.

High school grads were generally better educated, and prepared for college in 1977 than they were in 1980. Many subjects (e.g., Economics, ) which used to be required curricula to graduate were either offered as elective course or dropped entirely.

It's time to pull the plug on the Department of Education - it was doomed to become a boondoggle.

"We've been conditioned to think that only politicians can solve our problems. But at some point, maybe we will wake up and recognize that it was politicians who created our problems." - Dr. Ben Carson

1. Show your work. I graduated high school in 2002, and I had to take economics.

2. What does any of this have to do with the Federal Department of Education? Each state sets their curriculum.

Many schools dropped Economics, or made it an elective course.

The Department of Education was mainly created for the purpose of redistributing wealth, from taxpayers to various school districts. The problem is/was there was no need for the federal government to do that redistribution.

Funding for Iowa schools should be paid for by Iowa taxpayers, Florida schools should be funded by Floridian taxpayers, etc. etc. It makes no sense for the federal government to overreach their power and authority on school districts - i.e., make them jump through flaming hoops in order to qualify for federal funding.

There is no need for the Department of Education - it just makes the federal government bigger and more powerful than it really needs to be.

Nah I'll just blame you.
Blame whomever you want. Either way, going forward my taxes will support schools in my state, and you will have to pay more out of pocket if you live in a red state.

When I say "show your work," it means I am asking you to provide evidence to support your claim, not just repeat it.
I see the problem here. You are conversing with a MAGA and should be aware that the extent of their knowledge is limited to the talking points they were handed by the media. The extent of their "debate" or "argument" is to regurgitate those talking points and sometimes make up names for the Other. So in this case @SkyChief was told to say that economics coursework is less prevalent in high schools today than it was in the past when in reality any high schooler with 30 seconds and a search engine would have discovered that he was fed lies and is doing little other than rebroadcasting them, since economics classes are in fact more common today than in the past.

To ask him to "show your work" is pointless since he was only given the talking points, so there's no work to be shown.

Edit: it's also possible that @SkyChief doesn't understand the difference between "home economics" and "economics" courses and uses the terms interchangeably. The former is less common and the latter more common than in the 1970s. I personally believe that they are both important, but I can also see the argument that the former is closer to the job of parents than teachers.

The high school graduation rate in 1977 was 75%

In 2021, it was 86%

So

Not sure how you do your measuring, but fewer students even completing high school doesn’t make things “better” in my book.

"It also exposes alarming achievement gaps between white and Asian students and their Black and Latinx peers. Most concerning, more than half of Black and Latinx students in New York scored Below Basic both in fourth grade Reading and eighth grade Math."

So, do tell, when did NYC turn "Red"

Read my comment again.

I said, "The national numbers have GENERALLY turned to shit because of the red areas indifference to education."

Of course, there are going to be exceptions. What you need to prove is that the red districts are bringing up national scores. Good luck with that.

The quality of education has dropped significantly since the Department of Education was established.

Last year the performance of grade schoolers was ABYSMAL:

2024 Passing Scores

Grade 4 . . . . . Reading: 31% . . . . . . . Math: 39%

Grade 8 . . . . . .Reading 30% . . . . . . . .Math: 28%

source: https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=4

Also, The Dept of Education exerted a lot of pressure on many schools to keep them closed during COVID in spite of the fact that the scare was over and many kids in other countries were back in school.

The Dept of Education is a government agency that serves no real purpose, and it was wise of Trump to downsize it. I'd like the whole mess unplugged actually.

I don't need to prove anything. You are free to believe what you want, and who you want to believe.

Yes, because the (testing standards) bar has been lowered to create the illusion that teachers are doing better. Teachers are NOT doing better - they are doing worse. These students who graduate are ill-prepared for college courses.

More students are completing high school, because the testing standards and graduation requirements are so low.
