Tiff Over A Missing "-ic" Continues

If there were a party named the Patriot Party and they insisted on being called the Patriotic Party, would it make sense? It would be implying that they are, by definition, patriotic. It's much the same as pretending Democrats are, by definition, democratic.

In my opinion, the "Democrat majority" is most accurate way to reference the current majority. The majority are Democrats and may, or may not, in fact, be democratic.

This point is irreleva.

We're talking about a Democratic Party that likes to be called by its name: the Democratic Party. We're not talking about not a made up party that allegedly might like to be called something other than its name. This comparison has no basis in reality.

It's true that President Bu said "Democrat majority" in the state of the union speech. However, the Preside has a history of saying "Democrat Party." The SOTU is much more visible than other instances. More people noticed it or somethi.

Well, that was an oversight then. I mean, I'm not trying to needle. Look, I went into the debate saying what I said and I was very sincere about it. I didn't even know I did it. I didn't mean to be putting fingernails on the board. There is a lot of politics here at debatepolitics.com – in my judgment, needless politics. And it's almost like, if Niftydrifty is for it, we're against it, and I – and if he's against it, we're for it. And the folks reading at home don't like that.

And there is distrust here at debatepolitics. I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists on this site. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it. So the idea that somehow I was trying to needle somebody, it's just – gosh, it's probably – who knows what it is. But I'm not that good at pronouncing words anyway, 1069.

Awww... :(
Well, you can always just read the posts of the people you like, and either skim or ignore the other ones. That's the beauty of the internet.
As for the bolded part; I've seen a little of this. People can definitely be contrary and ornery.
And I think (I'm not even familiar with your politics, Nifty; I don't think I've read many of your posts) that even since I've been here, some of the more "extreme" liberals have left (leaving mostly moderate ones) and some of the more moderate conservatives have either left or become more extreme, shifting the entire moderate/centrist base Right, and making the staunch liberals look like isolated wingnuts.
This happens sometimes; I've seen it happen the other way too, though.
Just stick to your guns and say what you believe. Who cares if anyone likes it or agrees with you? You've got as much right to an opinion as they do, even if your opinion isn't a popular one.
So chin up, turn that frown upside down, etc, ad infinum. :)

The President always manages to show bipartisan dignity

OK....that is just too funny. Tongue in cheek?

President Bush, speaking to House of Representatives Democrats today:

Stressing bipartisanship throughout a speech that focused mainly on domestic priorities, Bush also made light of a quip during his State of the Union address last month, in which he referred to the "Democrat" party instead of the "Democratic" party. Some Democrats viewed it as an intended slight meant to imply the party was not democratic.

"Now look, my diction isn't all that good. I have been accused of occasionally mangling the English language. And so I appreciate you inviting the head of the 'Republic' party," Bush said to laughter.

You know...I was actually pleasantly surprised when I saw this article. I hope that it is the sign of a "new and improved" GWB. The reality is...Bush cannot continue to govern the way he has...because...like this article states...it would just be gridlock....which would not be good for the Democrats either. It would be very nice if at least in the last two years of the Bush administration that he and the Congress try to do something to clean up the mess of the last 6 years. That would be good for the Dems in Congress....and Bush might leave with some semblance of legitimacy.

psssst: it was a joke. I took Bush's explanation for why he said it and changed some words around, including "Bush" into "Niftydrifty."

I find it interesting that you perceive this post as me portraying myself as a "victim." The thing that is interesting is that these are really Bush's own words. Here we've heard Righties constantly berating Democrats and those that defend them for being to sensitive and to stop being the victim. And here you've got Bush acting that way.

I was just poking fun at his expense, again.

NPR : Full Transcript: NPR Interview with President Bush

MR. WILLIAMS: By the way, in the speech, you spoke about the Democrats. You said, you congratulated the Democrat majority. And I notice your prepared text said Democratic majority. I surely think that you know that for the Democrats, they think when you say Democrat, it's like fingernails on the blackboard. They don't like it. They like you to say Democratic.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Yeah. Well, that was an oversight then. I mean, I'm not trying to needle. Look, I went into the hall saying we can work together and I was very sincere about it. I didn't even know I did it.

MR. WILLIAMS: OK.

PRESIDENT BUSH: And that I did, I didn't mean to be putting fingernails on the board, I meant to be saying why don't we show the American people we can actually work together? There is a lot of politics in Washington – in my judgment, needless politics. And it's almost like, if George Bush is for it, we're against it, and I – and if he's against it, we're for it. And the American people don't like that.

And I'm going to tell you some big issues we need to work on. One is entitlements. Your grandchildren are going to grow up with a Social Security system that is broke unless we do something about it. Now, I understand how hard that is. I mean, it's—But the solution can be done. But it requires a lot of political, you know, capital to be spent. And there is distrust in Washington. I am surprised, frankly, at the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it. So the idea that somehow I was trying to needle the Democrats, it's just – gosh, it's probably Texas. Who knows what it is. But I'm not that good at pronouncing words anyway, Juan.

Oops. Well, sometimes these things don't come across all that effectively over the 'net.
I thought you were seriously upset about something. I was trying to be encouraging. :)

I was just poking fun at his expense, again.

Well, in that case... good one! :lamo
