Unusual for me, I have no sources, no references . . . just pure opinion:

I recently saw a post, where it was offered that it might be better that unvaccinated Americans die-off, to slow the proliferation & spread of the virus, and that we should recoup the expenses of their hospitalizations & deaths from their estates. The post was inclusive and quite detailed about how we could benefit from our fellow Americans dying, and how the dying essentially deserved their fate.
I was going to address this scathingly, and even wrote a medium length reply to that effect. But, I stopped before I sent it, and I'm glad I did! I otherwise very much like this poster, and their thoughts reflect what has become not uncommon thought & attitude here and in society. So rather than reply to them, calling them out, I decided to post an excerpt of my previously penned reply here!

It's heresy to speak of our fellow Americans like this.
But unfortunately, this pandemic has really brought-out the worst in us!
For a long time, I blamed America's lack of coming-together on our having grown soft, lazy, and self-centered & selfish over the years. We haven't had a national existential threat since WW-II/Cold War. We've lived a life of bounty. And, I naively believed that affluence, abundance, softness, & lack of threat, led us to grow like this. I believed an existential threat would bring us together, and snap us out of it.
Well, we are now facing that threat! And boy, was I wrong! We failed. Miserably. And I am not just disgusted, but very ashamed of us.

So, there we go. I'm not sure what to say? We are at each other's throats, with quite a few seemingly believing they would be better off if the others, their fellow Americans, would succumb to death.
And, I've seen this rhetoric displayed from those I otherwise consider very good posters! We're not just talking about newbs passing through on their way to the Ban Hammer!
Oh well, it is what it is. This is the society we've become. The 'Greatest Generation' is long gone. And to be honest, we ain't looking too 'great' anymore. Very sadly.
