Afghans insanely not only running with a US military jet on the runway risking being crushed, but climbing on it and holding on as it taxis - they have essentially no chance to survive as the plane speeds and takes off (the video doesn't show what happened). Warning, this video is likely unforgettable, surpassing the famous Saigon pictures.

People who will have their entire families murdered because they worked with us, and we have Americans demanding they be kept out of our country.

Monstrous.

7 confirmed dead from this incident so far.

Thats sad, but the US has murdered tens of thousands in the region. 7 dead here is small potatoes by way of comparison.

Leaving is by far the best thing to do IMO.

And let that be a lesson: dont go turncoat on your own people to aid an invading force. The locals wont like you anymore. I hope the world is fully aware of this now for the next time the US decides to bring FrEeDuMbZ$™ to a country halfway around the world.

It's ****ing gut wrenching man...

I will admit I've mentioned it in another post, but I have not the heart to watch it, I just saw it mentioned in articles.
Yeah, you probably shouldn't watch it unless you feel like there's too much positivity in your day.

I watched the video, horribly sad to see people so desperate live to end up like that. I did read in one report the C-17 managed to cram in 800 people before it took off. There are pictures out there of what happened after take off, not going to link to any but you can find them on your own if you want.

It is beyond demoralizing to see such a long campaign of utter failure captured in a clip of only a few seconds.

But that imagery should be a sobering slap in the face reminder that we have spend decades messing about in that region of the world driven by a hypocritical, confusing, entangling, and disaster of a foreign policy ideology the entire time never bothering to learn much about who they are.

The failure should hurt. We spent lives, dollars, and intentions with our longest conflict in US history... ending in that video.

The world has needed and still needs a legitimate and strong international justice system.

What we have/had is the biggest economic and military powers dominating Earth.

Now we're in a position where all of humanity is facing suffering (due to the altering of Earth's environment).

Well-being for all is the only way out of this mess.

Things are a bit out of control at that airport obviously.

That was supposed to be the UN and International Criminal Court and such.

Problem is: with things like the UN, the most powerful nations still wind up running everything. Just look at how the USA constantly prevents Israel from being held accountable for its constant atrocities and war crimes. Killing and displacing people and stealing their homes and property etc.

Dont get me wrong: the UN and such still do some good, but they have no real teeth. Its the nations with MIGHT that have to be found in the RIGHT.

Thats why some are so deadset against Irans pursuit of nukes. They know that Iran will be able to defend itself then. Unlike Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

Hartsfield seems downright organized compared to that. (y)
And I do not mean to make light of other humans deaths.

What we need is a UN with actual military teeth to enforce its laws and resolutions. Until then, we are living in a wild west lawless world, where the biggest and fastest gun always wins.

That video is undeniably chilling. Complete chaos and fear.

I can’t understand though, why can’t people with that kind of desperation turn the other way and fight? I recognize that’s easy to say from behind my comfy desk in America. But if these people stood up for themselves wouldn’t they easily overwhelm the Taliban fighters?

No, the reports I hear are that the Taliban are too strong for them to fight. It'd be like asking why you don't go to Mexico and remove the drug cartels with your rifle.

I have to disagree with "military teeth." Humanity needs humane and just ways to deal with inhumanity and injustice, everywhere.

Can we get there from here? It doesn't seem like it, but we have to try.

One mindset that needs to change is military conflicts. For centuries it's been about economic and militaristic fighting. It seems like humanity needs to (1) attempt to arrest and try people that commit crimes against humans, like criminal justice systems are supposed to work. But trying to prevent these crimes from happening would be much better. (2) Humanity needs to address all kinds of injustices, as best we can. This is 2021, we should be trying to move above and beyond the unwise and unjust ways humans have lived on Earth. We need to cooperate on all levels, as much as possible, in an attempt to avoid the worst of what 'science' says we're probably facing if we don't make massive changes on all levels.

There are enough resources for all humans to live a good life. If we continue misusing resources and degrading and destroying Earth, it's probable that more people are going to suffer, and that could end up being everyone suffering.

This is what happens when violent extremists take over. Think 1/6.

When has law and order ever been possible with just a sense of humanity? There are a lot of bad people in the world for whom that concept has absolutely no meaning. As long as there is even one of them around, you will need to have some actual teeth to enforce justice, law, and order.

Complete centralized power over something like "justice" would make things much worse, not better. You leftists always want more of that which is causing the problem.

What functional society do you know which can operate without a formal system of law and order? Why would the global community be any different?

Does any kind of law and order mean “complete centralized power” to you?

In case you didn't notice, the biggest military in the world just lost.

That’s just equivalent to being the biggest guy on the block. It is no substitute for a formal system of law and order, where all the members have a stake and contribute towards it.

I wouldn't have an international justice system with "complete centralized power."

As I said, I would prefer working on prevention rather than policing, courts, and the usual things that come with that. But we have to start somewhere, so I'd decentralize an international justice system as much as possible by trying to have as many _______ (entities?) willingly and actively participating. That includes the US, which I believe has subverted attempts at international justice systems.

You leftists always want more of that which is causing the problem.

Why would the global community be any different?

Because you're referring to law produced by politics, which is generally shit, and gets worse the more centralized it gets.

You are wrong. The US is the "biggest and fastest gun" on the planet, and it just got beat by 75,000 low IQ barbarians driving pickup trucks and armed with AK47s and IEDs.
