Thinking of Germany, what comes to your mind? (1 Viewer)

yes, the iron cross has a long tradition!
Haven't seen you in a while. Howdy!

Its not the iron cross but the awesome aircraft with the Merlin engine.

I had 3 years of high school German which came in handy when I was assigned there in ‘67. I lived on the economy for a short while before being sent to VN. I enjoyed it while I was there and felt I had been there before, maybe because my family originally came here from Stuttgart. Even though it was 22 years after the end of WWII, you could still find remnants from the war. I understand that most of those have been removed.
Stuttgart? So you have Swabian ancestors? :)

I don't really have much of a desire to travel either within or out of the country these days, but if I were to go anywhere, I'd like to go back to Germany and Austria, and perhaps the British Isles as well. I try not to be one of those obnoxious Americans who always goes around claiming that I'm German, French, Austrian, British, Scottish, Irish and whatever else I am - I'm American. But I do have a certain level of curiosity about my roots and where my ancestors came from, and I've thought it would be cool to go back and retrace steps at some point before I'm too old.

The porsche gt3 rs, beer that has been brewed in the same place, the same way, since Jesus walked the earth, and castles nestled on cliff faces in the mountains.

At the time, I believe it was part of the Kingdom of Bavaria, but it's now Rhineland-Palatinate. Actually, I think there's a line that came from near the Austrian-German border and also the French-German border (Alsace-Rhineland) and the two kind of met in that region before they began migrating out of Germany around the time of the 1848 upheaval.

I've been interested in visiting lately. Probably the only travel I'm interested in these days, though I am sure I'd find an excuse to visit France, Portugal, and Spain as well. And the UK and Ireland, and Italy, and Morocco, and...

That's the thing about traveling: once the bug strikes you, it strikes you, and you just want to experience cultures and see how different people live their lives.

Schnapps. But not for me. Don't know how it tastes. I was post diapers age. My grandfather always had a bottle in the cupboard. It was in a long black bottle with square sides.
It's been a while however, my memory is that it tastes like peppermint flavored cough syrup.
