'They quit after a few hours': Farmers admit they can't find American workers

The "activist republican farmers" need to get off their asses and do their own work!!

Traveling to the farms is an issue. Many would not have vehicles to get to say California if they lived in Colorado for example, and I believe hitch hiking is illegal

So why would they rather pick crops? At least, according to the op - Americans will work at subway but not pick crops, and immigrants will pick crops but not work at subway? Seems weird.
 
I'd say we're not too far from Trump/MAGAs suggesting that PRISIONERS in our PRISIONS be made to do the farm work.

You know, like the slave labor that one person in this thread keeps harping about.

Because US Citizens won't do the work. We went through this in the Obama years. Southern/Bible Belt states cracked down illegal hiring, and hundreds of millions of dollars worth of crops rotted in fields because citizens wouldn't do the work. States even worked with farms to provide better financial incentives, and it barely moved the needle.

Despite common believe to the contrary, jobs like this aren't low knowledge/low skill. Many crops require specific methods for efficient harvest. It's not "just go pick the crops" just like working fast food isn't just "assemble the burger." It's backbreaking work that does require particlar knowledge/skills/work ethic. There are people willing to do this work for a certain wage, and we're kicking them out so they don't take jobs that...citizens won't do.

This is part of how food prices increase.

Illegal immigrants will and likely do work at subway I am sure, either under the table or with fake documents

As an aside, why do white people not know how to pick strawberries? Is it a cultural thing or maybe something generic? As a white person yourself, how did you manage to become someone incapable of holding down a job picking strawberries all day?

Not so much as they are paid at least the min wage and if being abused can report the abuse without fear of being deported.

Now Canadians generally do not want to do that work for the pay being offered. But it is a fully legal process and employers will get in trouble if they abuse workers

They certainly do, in Western Europe eastern Europeans have been employed as farm workers

Western EU nations simply allowed labour to flow and those labourers made their own way back to Bulgaria and Romania once the season was over.

In Brexit Britain, we flew some labourers over at first (2019 and 2020) in chartered flights when the Eastern Europeans all left but now the govt is forced to hand out 400,000 temporary visas every year for these same pickers to come here temporarily.

A real "win" for our version of MAGA types.
