State with the Lowest Literacy Rate California has the lowest literacy rate, with 23.1% of adults lacking basic prose literacy skills, resulting in a literacy rate of 76.9%.
 
Protectionist regulations and laws designed to maintain or increase property values.
Combined with the resulting powerful lobby of property owners, which scared the California government away from addressing the issue.

It's cool and windy this time of year so a blanket is always helpful. Kicking back and reading while sipping on hot tea on the beach is relaxing however. And heck, just three weeks ago I was skiing in Tahoe. It's amazing how much variety we have in this state.

I'm acknowledging the statistical reality that just because you cannot cut it doesn't mean that tens millions of others aren't happily doing so.

Like I said, you're not going to be able to hack it here, so it's best that you relegate yourself to someplace like Mississippi or Oklahoma that's more your speed.

Don't take the failures of your state personally. Sure it's your fault, but you have to accept that sometimes you have to live with what you deserve. Donald cannot fix all of your problems for you.
 
Indeed. California is big geographically and big population-wise, so any generalization about it will have elements of the truth. I, as a Northern California snob, I repeat myself and ask you again to consider but my part of it: draw a line west from Mendocino to Lake Tahoe, south to Yosemite, then west to Monterey. In that rectangle - within four hours drive - you have one of the prettiest cities in the world, the glory of the north coast, the huge magnificence that are Tahoe and Yosemite, the Carmel-Big Sur area, the Napa wine country, and the fascinating Sacramento River delta. Missing might be a desert or warm beaches, though Santa Cruz qualifies at times for the latter. You can find huge wild salmon running through the crowded suburbs in Walnut Creek. Nearby, Port Costa is a tiny jewel. I hold forth from the Berkeley hills, with a view west of the SF Bay, and a view south of green coast mountains, 40 yards down the street are magnificent coast redwood trees. And no smog, thanks to the fog that rolls in most days.
 
I've never known a part of the world as rich in variety. I believe some do exist - select slices of Switzerland and Italy, small bits of India, certain large islands like Tasmania, but they are few and far between for sure. From my front door, I am less than 4 hours from massive redwood forests, beautiful beaches and some of the world's best surfing, a number of the world's best and most picturesque ski slopes, breathtakingly beautiful desert terrain, or wildflower-filled rolling grasslands as far as the eye can see. I can go swimming or canoeing 12 months a year. I can find amazing tech towns with every big city amenity I could want, charming small towns that look like snapshots out of time, and everything in between. It's amazing here, and I couldn't be happier. Yeah we have our issues, but on the balance the pros handily outnumber the cons.

Yeah, I'm a NorCal snob too but honestly, I love SoCal and central coast just as much. I'm a city person (love San Jose) but seem to find myself running circles around the bay just to explore and discover new things. Excited to drive up to Vacaville in a couple of weeks, want to check out that massive rock store they have there, and I hear there's an amazing sausage place.

I get that there are some MAGA who cannot cut it here, and that's fine. Not everybody can make it here and there will always be people who have to settle for some other place. That's fine with me.

I live in California and have most of my life. I fought this insanity to the best of my ability. But the combination of corruption, rigged elections, and judicial activism destroyed my state. Sedition by corrupt federal judges allowed the illegal invasion that ended California.

Prop 187 and Prop 209 BOTH passed overwhelmingly - only to have democracy overruled by corrupt hacks on the federal bench.

Those aren't the best beaches for catching rays.

Santa Cruz is a bit of a drive south, but much better

But the number actually refers to,

"Population with Low Literacy"

Pretty confusing. But you're right, I'll withdraw the point.

The poster presented the data in a funky fashion.

He presented the 200K that left Cali in a two year period, but neglected to mention during that same two year period Cali had the third highest population gain in the country!

So there ya' go. It was in the data in one of his OP links.
 
Did CA become a one-party state after they started mail-in ballots?
