When asked by reporters clustered on the blacktop outside the West Wing if Mr. Trump had command of the details of the negotiations, Mr. McConnell ignored the question and smiled blandly.
...
Mr. Trump and his staff played a critical role in persuading House Republicans to pass health care legislation in May, with the president personally calling dozens of wavering House members.
Trump later called the bill that he worked to pass "mean."

A senator who supports the bill left the meeting at the White House with a sense that the president did not have a grasp of some basic elements of the Senate plan — and seemed especially confused when a moderate Republican complained that opponents of the bill would cast it as a massive tax break for the wealthy, according to an aide who received a detailed readout of the exchange.
Mr. Trump said he planned to tackle tax reform later, ignoring the repeal’s tax implications, the staff member added.
Trump doesn't even know that the Senate health bill eliminates ACA taxes? It's just mind-blowing that a president has no idea about any of the details -- including fundamental provisions of a bill that he supports.

This is news to anyone?

Who doesn't remember how he was treated by Republican leaders during the campaign.

As far as that Party leadership was concerned (until he won) any one of the other 15 candidates would have been a better choice.

I pointed this out several times during the campaign period.

In any case, it's not his fault the Republican Party had no real plan to dismantle the ACA and repeal or replace it, despite all their claims for something better over the last six years.

IMO Trump's campaign rhetoric on this issue was based entirely on a good faith belief the Republicans in Congress already had "something better" worked out together, as they kept saying all those years. :coffeepap:

So do you think he's a cretin who should never have been elected, or the GOP isn't telling him what's in the bill for spite?

How can anyone defend a 70+ Year Old Fart who feels the need to post Fake Time Magazines Covers of himself at all is Golf Courses? :lamo

Time magazine has asked the Trump Organization to remove copies of a fake cover of President Trump that were on display at the company’s golf clubs, The Washington Post reported Tuesday afternoon.

The request came after the newspaper reported that at least four Trump-branded golf clubs had displayed a fake Time magazine cover that depicted Trump with the headline “Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!”

The cover, dated March 1, 2009, was never published by the magazine at any point, a spokeswoman for Time confirmed.

“I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka wrote to the Post in an email.

Not his fault? It's his fault that he is completely ignorant of what any of the policy provisions are in the bill. That is certainly his fault. The president has the constitutional authority to sign bills into law or veto them that have passed the House and the Senate. How can he make that decision if he doesn't even know what the bill will do?

We know that Trump doesn't like to read things -- but even so, he has a staff that can give him a briefing of what's in bills. Otherwise, he is what Grover Norquist said of hm: "All we need is someone who can 'handle a pen'."

False dilemma fallacy.

Neither of those options is valid, they merely reflect your partisan viewpoint.

Red herring argument, couched in typical partisan bombast.

He has been on the cover of Time several times over the years: January 16, 1989,

TIME Magazine Cover: Donald Trump - Jan. 16, 1989 - Real Estate - Business

and the most recent one I can find quickly...from August 15, 2015:

Behind TIME'''s Cover with Donald Trump and an American Bald Eagle | Time.com

Meanwhile, anyone ever hear of those fake covers anyone can put themselves on for fun?

Anyone of us could do the same for a couple of bucks.

You know, Trump could take an hour break from his Fox News, walk over to the Capitol, knock on the door and say, "Hey guys, whatcha doin'? Writing a healthcare bill? Oh, that's cool. What's in it?"

He doesn't CARE ...

He just wants someone to pat on his back and tell him how great he is.

It is absolutely my position that someone gave that to him as a gift to earn favor. As it's come out how important it is to flatter him, combined with the fact that Trump doesn't follow up on details then that's got to be what that is.

There is seriously something mentally wrong with Trump now. The smoking gun is how he was able to put his ideas into words 10 or 15 years ago. I saw interviews he did back then, and all of his speech at that time was articulate, nuanced, and very well thought out. This was a very intelligent man back then. What happened to him?

That is a simple fact.

or the GOP isn't telling him what's in the bill for spite?
Makes no difference. A cretin would never understand.

Re: The Week: At least one GOP senator is pretty sure Trump doesn't understand the ba

Trump enthusiastically supported the House healthcare bill [AHCA] he later labelled as "mean".

Now he's supporting the Senate healthcare bill [BCRA] without even knowing the broad particulars.

wtf? How can Trump not have a clue on pending healthcare legislation that affects 330 million constituents?

Re: The Week: At least one GOP senator is pretty sure Trump doesn't understand the ba

In any case, it's not his fault the Republican Party had no real plan to dismantle the ACA and repeal or replace it, despite all their claims for something better over the last six years.

It's his fault that he didn't have a plan after falsely claiming he did during the campaign.

Remember this from January of this year?

President-elect Donald Trump is putting the finishing touches on an Obamacare replacement plan that aims to provide "insurance for everybody," he told The Washington Post.

Also, he will demand that drug companies negotiate directly with Medicare and Medicaid and lower their prices, saying they will no longer be "politically protected."

He's a lying sack of ****.

IMO Trump's campaign rhetoric on this issue was based entirely on a good faith belief the Republicans in Congress already had "something better" worked out together, as they kept saying all those years. :coffeepap:

He didn't ask what it was? Will the "he's too stupid to tell a lie" excuse ever get old for you folks?

Is Trump part of the legislature? You're like the 7590854 who doesn't understand the three branches of government.

Let me understand your reasoning, such as it is. The thread is about Trump being said by a Republican Senator that Trump doesn't understand the basics of the Senate HC bill. According to you, that's ok because he's part of the Executive branch and not the legislature. That's an astounding dumbing down of expectations. I could just imagine what Southerners would be saying if President Johnson had no idea of what was in the Civil Rights Act. What would Republicans say if Obama knew no detail about the ACA?

We used to expect that presidents had a command of knowledge of the bills that they would be expected to sign into law. He reminds me of the Governor in Blazing Saddles, where he his playing with a paddle ball on a string, saying 'work, work, work.' Trump is a bystander in legislation formation and advocacy, who makes empty promises about bills that he has no idea what they do.

We liberals warned the country that this guy was an ignoramus with a bad temperament. He's proving us right, sadly.

There are already several videos of him losing his train of thought and literally walking away from a signing or public appearance. In Israel he wandered away from Netanyahu and staff members had to guide him back to the camera to finish shaking the hand of Netanyahu, who appeared simultaneously amused and patient. As you say, he was better spoken (though I would disagree that was ever all that great), worsened up through last year, and now the stress of the Presidency has clearly caused him to rapidly decline. His tweets have become increasingly incoherent, and in half a year's time I expect that the incoherency will become more the standard than the exception.

Whatever his condition, he's degenerating rapidly.

He ain't all there. Invoking the 25th amendment will become a real national topic in the not distant future.

Here he is in a 1992 interview, and though his faculties are certainly better here, what's interesting to note is that he is literally the same vindictive and petty human being now as he was 25 years ago. Anybody who believed that the office of the Presidency would mellow or improve him in any way should have watched this interview first. He was as obsessed with the notion of loyalty then as he is now. Only now you can add the incoherence and unpredictability that comes with his particular form of mental degeneration to that obsession with loyalty.

Trump was actually correct when he said Healthcare is complicated. It took a man to say that. Both parties have found that to be very true for many years, including in the hear and now. Hillary couldn't even due that in the 80's.

Pretty sure everybody had an idea that healthcare was complicated.

Anyway, what couldn't Hillary due in the 80's?

Lol, did Obama have a command of knowledge of the Healthcare bill HE signed ?

Did any Democrats that voted " Nay " ? Back in 2010 there were plenty of Americans that did ( mostly Conservative )
