I have been a harsh critic of the Right for quite some time (no kidding!) but have to admit the hyperbole on the Left about another Civil War coming is kind of over the top.

So the following article tackled this question and I highlighted a few snippets that I believe to be true. Though I believe the statements made to be true, YOU can disagree with the premise if you want, after all, isn't THAT what debate is for?

The right wing lie machine has recently expanded its scope. With the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act by Congress, they have seized on increased funding for the Internal Revenue Service that will lead to the hiring of 87,000 agents --- (half of which will go to replace immanent retirements). To hear the liars at Fox News and too many Republican members of Congress, these agents, armed with machine guns, will be invading the homes of small business owners in search of unpaid taxes. In fact, very few of them will be in the armed enforcement units. Most IRS auditors work in offices at computers and most audits are conducted by mail or on line.

However, despite the outrageous and dangerous misbehavior of the right-wing echo chamber, right-wing pundits and too many members of Congress, a note of caution is in order. Talk is cheap and rhetoric is not the same as action. So far, there has been ONE --- repeat --- ONE attempt to physically harm FBI agents in the wake of the widespread anger stoked by Trump and his minions.

Polling data shows that about 20 percent of Americans believe that violence is justified to protect “our freedom.” Twelve percent said they themselves were willing to be violent.
Of that group, do you think every one of them is really ready to start shooting? I would venture to guess that a large percentage of that group are what the Texans call, “All hat and no cattle,” In other words – big talkers.

Agree OR disagree?

I certainly don't speak for anyone, but I believe most that are not on the left just roll their eyes when folks incessantly promote the idea of civil war. I just chuckle and usually move on from articles now whenever I see them.

The United States is not on the verge of civil war

Agree OR disagree?

Correct and I agree
only loons and nutters similar to Ashli Babbit and Ricky Shiffer are on the verge of acting out in the name of delusion, misinformation and ignorance

i hope they don't actually do anything but if they do all it will result in is their deaths and or imprisonment and unfortunately the deaths and injury of other NORMAL people not like those nutters

Correct!

There will be NO Civil War.

What there will be is continued seething resentment at how the woke Dems are changing this nation.

But everyone (except a few nuts) will continue their daily lives as usual: work, eat, sleep, hobbies, traveling, and occasionally watching a few minutes of the ever woke "news." Americans will act the way people act in other authoritarian nations: ignore politics and enjoy life.

This country is changing demographically and that means big changes are coming -- like it or not.

I expect that in the next century, some (a lot?) who do not like the changes will be emigrating.

To Canada or Mexico?

To Australia?

To Europe? (That continent in the next century might welcome American immigrants.

Agree OR disagree?

I hope this is true, but if you listen to Republican leaders like Trump and Graham, it isn't true.

If people want to kill each other over a sociopathic game show host with a fourth grade vocabulary, I'm not commuting through that shit. My job is important, but it's not that important.

Yeah, I noticed, @TheParser couldn't resist. It is his "schtick." Regardless of topic he has to throw at least one rightwing catchword into his comments.
Nothing new for him, so I just pass over it (usually).

Demograhically changing how?

Stop ruining every thread with your "I HATE BLACK PEOPLE" shit.
It's an attempt at thread jacking, but hey, if we could all learn to just pass over his comments and ignore them, maybe he would stop that tactic.
NAH, who am I kidding. Some people can't change their stripes.

He's mad that people are no longer lynching blacks.
That's usually what it is when people complain about "demographics". Oh no, white people are getting into interracial relationships, oh no! So terrible.

These "pro-freedom" are always so concerned about other people's personal decisions which have zero impact on them.

The left would be very very foolish to start a Civil War against Americans.

It's definitely not just the left doing this. I see a ton of doom and gloom from the right/Trump supporters who believe all of our institutions have been corrupted, how we're no longer capable of holding legitimate elections, etc.

There won't be any riots in the streets. What you'll probably see is another walk on DC. Whether or not that turns in to riots is to be seen.

If we see more evidence of wrongdoing on Trump's part, the likely hood of even a march reduces with each thing we learn.

Kinda like that planned FBI protest in which zero showed up. Probably because they all knew they'd get put on some sort of FBI watch list.

Based on the analysis I've seen from political scientists who study civil wars, it's generally thought that we have something like a 2-3% chance per year of a civil war breaking out, over roughly the next 20 years, barring some kind of meteoric change (plague that wipes out half the population, near-total external war, etc.). Now, 2-3% doesn't sound like much, but prior to the present period in politics in this country, the chance was basically 0%. Factoring in the chance of the aforementioned meteoric change, when we think about the above as if just generating a random number between 1-100 every year for the next 20 years, it means there's about a 40% chance that a civil war will break out in this country in the next 20 years (which, of course, means it's more likely we won't have a civil war).

Now, what a civil war would look like is anybody's guess. It could be that a large movement of secessionists holds South Texas for a couple months before being soundly defeated by the military. Or it could be a general war of neighbor against neighbor waged in all 50 states. Or anything in between, though smaller conflicts are more likely than larger ones.

The above analysis is too long and complicated for our soundbite age, or perhaps just too complex for most people, so it gets turned into "We're on the verge of civil war!"

The truth, apparently, is not so simple.

Yup, uhuh, the threat is coming from the left, uhuh

Well, if it DOES come, we in Canada will be watching the show
