The U.S. need not be divided forever-the case for Blood and Iron

Then let's try something else.

For instance, Conservatives could abandon their reactionary bullshit and join the rest of us in the 21st century. No one needs to die and the cohesion of America would once again be achieved. That’s the goal right?

I'll accept your reasons. But if they are worthy of ridicule, especially for someone acting like an armchair general, then I will ridicule them.

I graduated from high school in 1985.

Reasons

1) I had a full ride academic scholarship to college. I had to use it then.
2) My parents strongly opposed me joining the military. My parents both supported the military but neither believed that if a man was married, a father, or an only son (my status). that he should join the military. My mother expressed great disdain for one of her nephews (who had a family) who joined the National Guard.

3) After 9-11, I made inquiries with a recruiter even though I was 34 years old. He talked to me but told me that there was no place for me to serve unless I already had some specialized skill that the military could make use of. Such as medical, mechanical, or language skills. He pointedly said that the Army had no need for an untrained 34 year old infantryman.

I'll openly admit that one reason I inquired about joining the military after 9-11 was that I had lost my job.

The term coined by Bismarck often used to refer to the militarism and nationalism that helped create modern Germany. There are few things better to unite a people and a nation than a (perceived external threat) or a crusade to eliminate that threat and consolidate the power of a nation.

Personally, I've very tired of hearing about how divided the United States is and some repeatedly suggesting the U.S. needs to break up.

Wouldn't it be worth it to unit our country and give us renewed national purpose for at least a couple of decades or more?
Wouldn't it be worth it to save our nation?
This is not what you want to suggest unless you want to prove that you really are a Nazi.

In 1991, you would have been done with college when Gulf War 1 heated up. Same with Somalia in 93. Why didn't you enlist (or rather get commissioned) then? Were you under the control of your parents?

Yes. I still lived with them as well.

when i was a kid, nazis were bad guys. they still are.

The appeal of the Nazis today to some despite the fact that they destroyed Germany gives you a glimpse into how personality cults work. Even when the cult leader fails abysmally he is still worshipped.

It's the same with Trump. Trump failed spectacularly yet his cult still loves him.

They are playing around with unsupported declarations that he not only won but won big. It's like watching a person with a broken bike chain pedaling furiously.

I've accepted that we can't make sense of it. It's just a psychological phenomenon. Trump is a certified nut but his followers are caught up in a personality cult. They've become irrational.

I've loathed Donald Trump since 1986.

OK but you still have an avatar that comes from the Nazis, and you want the USA to engage in wars of aggression and conquest under the guise of "Blut und Eisen".

What are you recommending? Be specific.

Bullshit. Anyone under age 38 is allowed to volunteer for the US Military. They would have found a good job for you.

I'm assuming that no one would have nuclear weapons in that case.

That's a weird assumption.

How do you mean to accomplish that exactly?

A sense of danger and a shared sense of sacrifice are kind of important to fostering a feeling of unity.

Or we could just learn to get along and forgo the madness that would be the existential threat of modern warfare.

No Nazi image I've ever seen had a GOP elephant in it.

Wow. That is exactly the kind of thing I’d expect a chicken hawk to say. I guess all the people who run into danger to protect others are just cowards, right?

Hey, Conservatives, do you enjoy having this guy on your side? A Nazi-avatared mass murder advocate who thinks every hero is actually a coward?
Must have been really appreciative of Trump's "losers" comment regarding the military who serve the US under his 'leadership'.

What makes you think I'm "too cowardly to serve"? Are you suggesting that the hundreds of millions of Americans who never served in the military are all "too cowardly"?
Ask your brave and valiant 'president' who routinely insults and denigrates your military, and who claims 'heel spurs' prevented him serving. As you probably know 'heel spurs' can be dealt with in a matter of minutes under local anaesthetic. The cowardly scumsucker probably knows it too.

Why would I care for a moment what Donald Trump thinks?

Well, when the apron strings are that tight, I guess you gotta stay.

That something fosters a sense of sacrifice and unity does not mean that thing is important to fostering same.
