I'm making this topic to discuss the discussions centered around Obama's teleprompter, and the huge storm that has come up around it. Firstly I want to say, that every politician since the invention of the teleprompter has used the damn teleprompter, it makes speech giving easier. So now that we have bi-partisan support for the teleprompter lets move on to the other question, where its used.
The Obama teleprompter crap came about from his use of it while meeting a group of 6th graders in Virgina right? Wrong, because he never used it while talking to students, it was used to talk to students afterward. That is the simple undeniable truth, you can even watch the video which in a hyperlink clearly marked in this link to the story.

What the Obama School Teleprompter Photos Really Show - AOL News

This reminds me of Bush's "Mission Accomplished" banner, which everyone took to mean he was saying the war was over, when in fact it wasn't even brought by any White House staff. It was put up by the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln and was referring to THEIR mission, which included a very long tour, some PR guy with Bush just thought it looked good and had it included in the background.

For my final questions I want to ask in response to all that political rationalization that is going on in many people's heads, probably something to tune of "Well sure everyone uses teleprompters at important events but Barack Obama uses them everywhere, where some blogger told me its bad to do so!"
Firstly, NO ONE has studied and found the ratio between the number of times Obama has spoken in public with a teleprompter and without one.
Secondly, WHY DOES IT EVEN MATTER? Does it really matter to everyone or anything if the President often uses teleprompters when making public speeches? And lets conveniently forget all his town hall meetings which there is no teleprompter and of which he has more than any president by far.

What I'm trying to get at is, what does it affect by using or not using a teleprompter? What does someone's rate of teleprompter usage mean at ALL!! You could claim it makes they are a terrible speaker and just assuming thats true I'm going to say again SO WHAT! Does being a terrible public speaker mean his policies are bad, his ideas are bad, his a bad leader/president? No the two are totally unrelated.

FDR needed a ****ing cane to walk.
McCain cant raise his left arm above his shoulder
Bob Dole needs to hold a pen in his hand all times to prevent his hand from literally crushing itself.
Bush Sr. doesn't like Japanese food and literally threw up all over their President
Obama likes to use a teleprompter.

Its all the same to me, ie totally meaningless

I can't believe you are admitting Obama has a handicap:

"FDR needed a ****ing cane to walk.
McCain cant raise his left arm above his shoulder
Bob Dole needs to hold a pen in his hand all times to prevent his hand from literally crushing itself."
And Obama can't speak coherently beyond memorized talking points without using a teleprompter.

Totally agree. Amazing what people want to make an issue.

I agree, the constant criticism of Obama's teleprompter is ridiculous. It's not different than looking at a piece of paper while giving a speech.

Every president has a team of professional speech writers. The teleprompter allows them to give speechs while seeming to maintain eye contact with an audience that is viewing the speech on TV.

The teleprompter is a non-issue.

And Obama can't speak coherently beyond memorized talking points without using a teleprompter.

Really is that what using a teleprompter means? How did you come to this conclusion? By the simple fact that he uses a teleprompter? Wouldn't that mean all politicians "can't speak coherently beyond memorized talking points without using a teleprompter?"
Or is there some other fact you are looking at?

Hell just for the sake of argument lets say Obama really did use some teleprompters to talk to 6th graders. What does that mean? Its obviously unnecessary, little ridiculous, and clearly easy to make fun of, I agree with all that. What it does not mean is that Obama's policies, ideas, anything meaningful at all are somehow wrong or untrue, the two are totally unrelated.

There are plenty of much more valid reasons to be upset with Obama, using the teleprompter as one just weakens that argument.

I agree. What's the alternatives? Reading from typed pages or memorization. Reading causes the speaker to look down often, thus dimming the message. Teleprompters allow for a more fluid delivery. I have no problem with that.

As for memorization, who believes the President of the United States should waste the time necessary to retain policy speeches?

The complaint is being made due to the resentment over Obama's effectiveness as a speaker.

The fact he spoke for hours to the Republicans during that question session, without a teleprompter, is completely overlooked.

The issue is his over-use of the teleprompter, not the fact that he uses one. He does stumble and speak sometimes incoherently when speaking off script.

I think he does it for the same reasons I do. He seems to be searching for the correct way to phrase things. At least that's my impression from listening to him.

So does every one. And sometimes he has no problem when talking without a teleprompter.

The mission accomplished banner information is something I had not heard, and the explanation certainly makes sense. I(thankfully) don't ever remember making a big deal about it.

Literally every person does this "sometimes."

Again, why does it matter? Every politician uses these things, and if you've got some sort of evidence that Obama uses it more than usual, I'd like to see it.

I think the teleprompter is the real mastermind behind the Obama Administration. I'd love to get an interview. I bet his name is Telly. :)
