Like I said, it's not totally under control, but that doesn't mean it's an army for a civil war.

What was January 6? A one-time event in which a *sitting* president got dozens of activists to get a couple thousand people to march on the capitol in a very amateur act, which accomplished basically nothing but getting 500 charged and security increased and vigilance much higher. It proves my point, rather than proving civil war is likely.

You don't have an opinion on the efforts to deny and cover all of that up?

Taking into account the title of this thread, I should think that the first order of business would be to define the alt-right. As far as I know, it includes a complex assemblage of groups who differ from each other in many ways. The Proud Boys are quite different from some of the groups that identify as religious believers.

Sure, one of their goals WILL be to declare Trump reinstated but if that fails, they will not just grumble and give up.

I agree it's beyond trump; I think that's a common mistake by Democrats to overestimate trump as the cause, instead of just someone using the situation and manipulating people. But I don't see anyone able to redo 1/6.

A lot of people didn't see how it would be possible to re-do the Beer Hall Putsch either.

And that's what I'm getting at:
We have SEEN this movie before, eighty years ago.
We KNOW the plot, we KNOW how the story winds up playing out.
And we KNOW what we and the rest of the free world had to finally do about it.

And while I can't speak for anyone but myself, I'd really prefer we didn't wait around with our thumbs up our asses until it GETS to that point before we prepare.
So I choose to prepare for it now, and if it turns out that you were right and I was wrong, guess what?
It's a win-win-win if that's the case, and it's not as if I would regret being prepared, it just means I can relax and have a good chuckle about it later.

You keep posting misrepresentations of what I said. I did not say anything about chuckling or the equivalent. If I pointed out that the Holocaust did not involve any nuclear weapons, am I minimizing it or chuckling?

I didn't say you shouldn't prepare for something if you want, either. And I would not equate Hitler's likelihood of additional activities at the time with trump's (or the far right's) now. Very different. I think ongoing tensions are very likely and they are likely to result in activities. We might not agree which activities are likely.
