The Right Are Tolerant, The Left Are Not

wrong question: Would I want any friends from the right on this forum?
Well, if you want a friend in me, I am willing, and when I go on a MAGA spiel and lionize QAnon, let me have both barrels - I won't care since we're friends.

As it is, the only friend from the left on this forum I have is Trix. I want another.

Trix - left?
You have a great sense of humor!

Karl Popper would like to have a word with you.

Literally every conservative with a liberal friend means a liberal has a conservative friend...
I think he said tolerates liberals, big difference. The left have no tolerance for anyone that disagrees with them. Besides the liberals will cut your throat on a whim in a hurry. Not friends you can trust.

Kind of an odd stat. It would be nice to have access to the source poll
Kind of agree that for every Republican that considers a liberal his friend, you would think the feeling would be symmetrical. I suppose then Republicans consider Dems their friend, but they really aren't as they don't consider the Rep their friend?

I have Republican friends that color just about every situational comment with how the Demonrats are doing something bad. I just smile and look past that, as they are often well meaning.
Nope...you could have a smaller group of liberal that is fine with being friends with a conservative and a larger group of conservatives that are fine with being friends with liberals and their is more overlap.

To make it simple, 1 liberal can be a friend with 5 conservatives and all of those 5 conservatives can be friends with that singular liberal.

A liberal with five conservative friends - you mean Juan Williams?

Precious few liberals like that about.

You do, of course realize that this is impossible . . . . right?
From the study:

Importantly, Republicans have more bipartisan friendships than Democrats do. A majority (53 percent) of Republicans say they have at least some friends who are Democrats. In contrast, less than one-third (32 percent) of Democrats say they have at least some Republican friends

What dimwit summarized the above

I honestly don't know what to do with threads that generalize about whole groups of people. Really, think about what you said. You clearly don't know any "liberals", howsoever you define them. Political choices don't necessarily say anything about a person's character.

Why are there posts after this one?
Well, there could be just a dozen or so liberals that all the conservatives are friends with. You know, those very, very few really nice liberals.

70% of felons are democrats
^^ Horse shit.

“What a politician believes about the impact of restoring the vote to a convicted felon often depends on which side of the aisle they stand on. A common belief amongst politicians is that felons are liberals who would vote Democratic. A survey of 8,266 prisoners by Slate and The Marshall Project found that convicts’ political views cannot be so easily pigeonholed.

They reported that:

A plurality of white respondents back President Trump, undercutting claims that people in prison would overwhelmingly vote for Democrats.

The survey was inserted into The Marshall Project’s print publication, News Inside. It is distributed to more than 500 prisons and jails in the United States. The respondents racially identified themselves as: White 41%, Black 20%, Latino 14%, Native American 17%, Asian or other races 19%, and 8% did not provide information. Because respondents could choose more than one race, the total percentage exceeds 100%. Among the respondents, 57% said they had never cast a vote.

The survey was distributed in March 2020. Of White respondents, 36% identified as Republicans, 30% Independent, and 18% Democrats. Only 11% of Black respondents identified as Republicans, while 29% identified as Independent and 45% as Democrats.

I am tolerant of the right and in fact I believe we need both sides. I am not tolerant any way shape or form of people who support that scumbag trump or anybody else who attempts to destroy my country by attacking our electoral process.

The right are tolerant of the left enough to make friends across the political divide. On the other hand, the left are the intolerant and refuse to make friends across the political divide.

Depends on the age group these days IMO.

The guys I golf. fish, and go boating with are a mix of old school Democrats and Republicans, and very few of us take the modern Democrats or Republicans very serious at all. Hell, most of us even wish Bill Clinton was still president, especially considering the the last 3 morons that have been in office.

From personal experience, I have had right wing family friends who threatened to kill everyone who voted for Biden, said straight up that we should be killed. Now, should I simply tolerate that view, pretend that this person is safe for me to be around? It scares the crap out of me that I really want to go see this person's Aunt and Uncle who live in the same piece of land, off a dirt road where about 5-6 families within this family live. I've known they were conservatives for a long time. The patriarch of their family was friends with my grandfather and I went camping with and played with these guys when we were all kids. I would never fear Big John, or his kids, but his nephews are saying that basically anyone who voted for Biden, is against Trump, like myself, deserves to be shot.

I'm married to a conservative and live with his conservative parents. My own paternal grandparents were rightwing and I have no doubt my grandfather would have supported Trump, just knowing his personality, but he was my favorite grandparent. My own father argues in favor of Trump. A lot of my friends are conservatives, since I was in the military. One got upset with me around or just after the election because of his support and my opposition of Trump coming into conflict, with him calling me names and then dropping me as a friend. He is a retired Navy Master Chief I worked both for and with in the Reserves, a man I respect but have a lot of political conflicts with. At least half my friends post right wing garbage on my Facebook that I simply normally ignore. I only accept Facebook friends that I know from my life, either past or present.

Liberal hero Bill Clinton signed the defense of marriage act into law, and Hillary opposed gay marriage right up until that position became a political liability.
Yep, and Obama didn't support gay marriage until later in his presidency. Society has changed really fast on these issues, moving to liberal positions.

Liberals lead the way while conservatives are dragged along by the scruff of their necks, bitching all the while, pining for the good ol' days when white straight men (of which I am one) assumed positions of privilege.

Was that your point?

My Best Man at my wedding is a Republican, or was. His dad was a businessman and had conservative views which rubbed off on my friend.

But my friend is also smart, and compassionate, and reads books, so he has been extremely disappointed with the Republican Party. He certainly doesn't support Trump.

My friend reminds me that there are conservatives out there who can be reasonable and principled and honest. That simply can't be said of Trump supporters.

There is a differnce between being tolerant of someone with Conservative views and being tolerant of Trumper's. Trumper' make it impossible to be tolerant of them.
