WASHINGTON — In early January, news that the Justice Department’s inspector general launched an investigation into the government's disputed handling of the Hillary Clinton email inquiry was quickly overtaken by the chaotic run-up to President Trump’s inauguration.

Nearly a year later, Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s wide-ranging review of the FBI and Justice’s work in the politically-charged Clinton case now looms as a potential landmine for Russia special counsel Robert Mueller.

What's it got to do with Mueller? He was told by the Attorney General's office to look into Russian interference in the election. The Clinton e-mail thing is another thing altogether.

Allow me. I read the article.

As the the inquiry into Clinton, Inc. gathers momentum, the partisanship of the Mueller probe is being shown to be composed of the very players who helped eliminate any meaningful investigation into Clinton, Inc. because it was assumed she would win, and the probes would be forever buried and those players would be rewarded with higher ranking positions in the FBI, Justice, and The Clinton Foundation. Their job, it appears was to "end" the Trump administration by "killing it in the crib", knowing the media would be more than willing to do the dirty work.

The "land mine" is Mueller's personnel choice being the very political hacks that investigate Clinton, Inc. and redirected the investigation into the darkness of neglect.

In other words, the whole enchilada is corrupt to the core. Why am I not surprised?

Republicans seem to be looking for ANY excuse to let any wrongdoing uncovered on the part of Trump's circle be swept under the rug.

Paul Manafort's alledged financial crimes from years ago don't have anything to do with Russian interference in the election, either.

If it's revealed that Mueller stumbled upon evidence of Clinton breaking the law and ignored it, he could find himself in deep doo-doo with the law. Worse than that, his investigation will look even more rigged than it already does.

I looo for Mueller to say "**** it" and quit.

Nope. All the American people ask is that a fair and unbiased investigation take place. Looks like the leftists screwed that up from the get go.

I'm curious if the left would be as eager for an investigation into wrong doing on the Queen of Corruption's part, including her circle? Especially Russian collusion, the whole GPS, dossier business, up to and including the Clinton Crime Family. I'm sure any investigation would be fair.

God you're so fanatical it's pathetic.

Mueller was appointed to investigate "any links" between Trump campaign and Russian interests, so that includes Paul Manafort's criminal enterprise with the Russians.

And contrary to what you would so badly want to believe is true, there is zero evidence Clinton is under any sort of investigation by Mueller.

Some people think Mueller will be delivering a letter declaring his investigation over and clearing DJT sometime after the new year.

I think an investigation into the Queen of Corruption is in order.

Ken Starr and his team were partisans, and Comey was a registered republican, yet they were allowed to investigate democrats, but you never pitched a fit about those issues.

Keep dreaming.

The last dozen investigations into the Clinton's found were overseen by Republican partisans, yet they all turned up nothing but popcorn farts.

Now Trumps coming under scrutiny and you don't like it because you know he's a conman with more skeletons than a graveyard.

I thought you all have been saying that Mueller has authority to "investigate anything" and/or "investigate any crimes that may arise during the investigation". I distinctly remember that.

However, Paul Manafort's dealings with the Russians prior to 2016 has nothing to do with the Trump Campaign.

Some people? You talking about Fixednews and Trumps nightmare legal team of wacko's and mental defectives, that's can't spell, and don't know the law? :lamo

I thought it was supposed to be over by Thanksgiving? :doh

Too bad.

Once a special counsel is appointed, he can request the DOJ give him permission to follow leads outside of his scope, just like Ken Starr did to Bill Clinton in the 90's.

You guys set the standard, now you've got stew in these juices.

If Mueller's orders are to "investigate any crimes that arise" and Clinton crimes arise, he'll have to persue those crimes, or risk breaking the law. I still say that exposing him as a grand inquisitor would be a fate worse than prison, for Mueller.

I see it this way...

1. The IG investigation covers a range of issues that all boil down to the Obama administration using his executive branch for political purposes...at lease, in regard to the FBI and the DOJ.

2. The Hillary email issue could be resurrected if it's shown that she got favorable treatment to escape charges.

3. The Mueller investigation...on the face of it...hasn't anything to do with the IG report, except that Mueller foolishly including some of the same FBI people who will be fingered by the IG report.

4. On the other hand, if it's proven that the Obama administration used his agencies against a Republican presidential candidate...that the whole "Russia" thing was entirely made up by the Obama people...then the whole reason for the Mueller investigation goes away and Mueller should just go home.

Bottom line...there are big problems for a lot of people because of that IG investigation...Trump isn't one of them.

Dozen? ROTFL

You mean the same investigation where Comey cleared the Queen of Corruption before the investigation even started?

Indeed. Those people are called 'idiots'.
