1. This constant, somebody called something in. bullshit. If a person calls in a gun or something else potentially lethal or abusive... they should have to give their names and have it verified on the spot by the Operator. If it turns out that the call was totally bogus the caller should be fined or jailed.
2. The Operators need to also stop embellishing. If a person calls in and says it looks like a person is tampering with a car then they should get fined or fired if they pass along to the cops that a person IS tampering with a car. The cops come in with a totally different set of expectations.
3. Cops need to be trained on the 1st Amendment. Far too many times they have no idea what the 1st Amendment means or they think that their policies or city laws over-rule the 1st Amendment. What kind of crazy uneducated bullshit are we accepting here?

Are you suggesting that the police be encouraged to not answer calls they deem to be not well enough documented?
Sometimes and I would say the same for calls that are just stupid. "Some guy is filming in public" or "some guy has a sign that I don't like" as well. Are you suggesting that the police be encouraged to not answer calls they deem to be not well enough documented?
Perhaps they are infiltrated by extremists, but that should be completely irrelevant. The problem with American police is that they have been infiltrated with extremists.
The mainstreaming of prejudice is destroying confidence in police.
There can be no extremism or prejudice in policing.
A good new law would require all police in the USA to wear activated bodycam at all times.
Huge rewards should be offered for police who turn in dirty cops.
Because the country is a totalitarian hellhole and no one is punished when the cops commit abuses - the legislation which could punish them is missing/they have immunityWhy should cops be there at all?
Police are tasked with a very difficult and dangerous job. Far too often we are now seeing stories of police protecting themselves at the loss of the lives of innocent Americans. If police don't want to be more dedicated to the job than themselves, they should not be on the force.Standard American shit, not much happened here...
Perhaps they are infiltrated by extremists, but that should be completely irrelevant.
Bodycam activated all the time? OK, but is that enough? They get away with it even when they commit murder, some morons will acquit them.
1. they must be stripped of any immunity
2. they must be subjected to all the criminal laws and possibly additional ones strictly for them
3. the should be judged and convicted strictly by judges that rely on evidence and logic(no jury trials)
The situations in which they can use force, non-lethal weapons and lethal weapons should be clearly enumerated and have their limits precisely specified.
additionally:
- the public should be educated what an emergency means and when to call 911
- 911 operators themselves should know what an emergency is and whether a certain complaint looks like an emergency(someone simply having a gun can't possibly be such a thing, as long as no one was threatened)
- the cops that receive the info from 911 should be able evaluate if a certain situation really requires their intervention or not(which is clearly no the case here)

Then the cops show up... want ID, start lying and trying to intimidate the photographer, false arrest perhaps... etc. Why should cops be there at all?
If a complaint is received, it seems the cops should respond.
Once on site, they should exercise as many tactics and as much prudence as is at their disposal to diffuse any tensions AND assure that nobody is hurt.
When the situation is sufficiently controlled, THEN they can dig into the situation's nuance and details.

I have been losing trust and respect for police during the last year after what was seen on January 6th. I now equate thin blue line flags with racism and protecting and serving fellow police rather than the public.
Well, they should first follow the law.
They had no reasonable suspicion of a crime. Therefore, there was no legal means for them to detain him or search him.
How do you know this?
Reviewing any situation with 20/20 hindsight is easy.
Some basic policy changes would solve so much. Make sure 911 Operators ask the right questions and not just accept what the caller is saying, relay the information accurately, have the cops show up to calls where they are needed... not where the caller wants them and stop, for the love of god, having cops try to ID everybody. So many call out do not require and ID... all the cop is doing is trying to find out of they have warrants, and such. That is not appropriate if you are getting pulled over for a lane violation or jaywalking or noise complaint or so many others.Standard American shit, not much happened here...

Well if they just blew the call off and then someone was injured or killed then you would be here bitching about their lack of action. Screaming look at this vedio that shows the cops did nothing.ALL the police had to go off of was the 911 call. ALL that mentioned is that someone saw someone else with a gun.
It didn't say someone was being threatening, pulled it on anyone, there was any kind of altercation, nothing...
Just a guy with a gun.
That's not a crime nor suspicion of a crime.
Go sign up to be a officer in New York city and tell us how safe and easy it is to be an officer there. Or Chicago?Well, it's not that dangerous...
The biggest killer of cops the last 2 years has been...COVID.
And as for jobs in America, the police come in about 18th to 26th place in terms of workplace injuries and fatalities. More dangerous jobs include being a lumberjack, commercial fisherman, farmer, truck driver, garbage man, roofer, construction worker... Yeah. Not that dangerous.

Some are never happy!

What, exactly, should "the police" have done after receiving the call?
What is the reasonable suspicion of a crime, based on the 911 call? How do you know this?

Perhaps the 911 operator should be trained better...as in to ask...OK...so you believe the individual has a gun....and....what are they doing that warrants suspicion? What, exactly, should "the police" have done after receiving the call?
