In his New Year's Day homily, Pope Francis prayed that “the precious gift of life: life in the womb, the lives of children, the lives of the suffering, the poor, the elderly, the lonely and the dying.” would be cherished and protected.

He asked for "a firm commitment to respect the dignity of human life from conception to natural death, so that each person may cherish his or her own life and all may look with hope to the future,”

An organization that officially bans abortion and all forms of contraception and then demands that it's members respect the dignity of life, cherish and protect it, has a serious problem with, biology, reality, hypocrisy, dignity, concern for the welfare of families and unplanned and unwanted children.

A greater example of indifference I cannot think of than Francis's glib, throw-away "thoughts and prayers" line of hope for the future offering nothing real, no programs, no help, nothing concrete to relieve the hardships of unplanned and unwanted children while surrounded by the unlimited luxury and comfort of the vast wealth of the Church.

What we need protection for is from religion.

?????? The Pope's message was beautiful. I think you are mixed up.

Not a fan of popery and not a fan of the RCC.
This speaks to me
restore dignity to the lives of everyone"
That includes women who make a choice, however difficult, doesn't it?
BTW, did the Argentinian firecracker gain weight? Looks like he is retaining fluids.

As an aside, I had quite the arguments back in the day because I was saying that John Paul II had Parkinson's.
🤷‍♀️

What hypocrisy? If you don't have sex when you're not planning to have children, you won't have any unplanned or unwanted children.

Life is an incredible gift. Protect, honor and cherish it.

protecting unborn human life - how horrible !!! :(

and ya'll wonder why so many in our country are so callous and mean and uncaring with no respect for human life :(

He should probably be solely focused upon the child rapists on the payroll. Until the Vatican's house is in order, this Pope and every Pope who follows should shut all the ****s up.

Not a practicing Catholic so didn’t tune in for the Pope’s message.

Catholics are free to practice their faith as they see fit. 🤷‍♀️

That's the Catholic Church's doctrine - you're not supposed to have sex except to make babies.

Not quite that blunt. You're supposed to be open to life when it comes. Have sex with your husband or wife all you like.

I agree completely. I have no quarrel with a Catholic Pope laying down Catholic law for Catholic congregants. But no Pope has ever spoken just to or for Catholics. Popes have never believed that their dogma is just for Catholics. And no Pope has ever stayed out of politics or civil law. In fact it is fairly accurate to say that Catholicism is more of a political institution than a religious denomination. Before the Reformation the Church was the law, anointed kings, arranged royal marriages, kept the vital records, educated the populace, provided the hospitals, wrote the laws, controlled commerce, accumulated wealth, land, and influence and waged war.

As far as doctrines go, that's a pretty stupid one. People generally enjoy sex. But leave it to religion to hate fun.

Actually, the rythym method has another name now , but it's an acceptable way to avoid pregnancy in the Roman Catholic Church. I think it was first acknowledged by Pope Pius in the 1950s.

Gracious and heartwarming words "be open to life" but the underlying text is controlling women's reproductive lives by usurping the power of the government and making Church dogma into civil law all women Catholic or not must follow.

The message sounds beautiful. But the actual actions of the Church are not. Where is the respect for the lives of the molested children. Where was the respect for life in the killings of children in Indian schools. Where is the respect for families when they are denied contraceptives and than prohibited from getting an abortion of the fetus they carry and know they cannot care for. Where is the respect for the already born human lives that will be harmed by the addition of an unwanted child. That is not being open to the all lives that will be needed to care for a child or another child. All that respect and cherishing blather is reserved for the fetus only.
I am not mixed up. I know exactly what the Pope believes and stands for.
