The Palestinians No One Talks About [GI - Khaled Abu Toameh]

The international media continues to ignore the "plight" of the Palestinians living under the rule of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as well as a number of Arab countries, especially Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.

"The Palestinian Authority does not want democracy." — Mother of Jihad Salim, assaulted by Palestinian interrogators who asked him why the Islamic Bloc won student elections at Bir Zeit University.

The international community pays attention to Palestinians only when they are "victims" of Israel. The continued obsession of the media with Israel allows the Arab countries, as well as the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, to proceed with their systematic violations of human rights and freedom of speech.

Media obsession with Israel oppression of the Palestinians?

That's nonsense.

There is virtually no mention on any major U.S. media sources of this...it's only outside of America mainstream media that you might hear of the terrible treatment of the Palestinians by the Israeli government.

As for the OP...no doubt the Palestinians are being victimized by other groups besides Israel. But this pales in comparison to the horrible treatment and flat out refusal to let the Palestinian people go by the Israeli government.

And right there, the confirmation of Abu Tomaeh's point. You have been so bamboozled by the media, Israel's supposed crimes have been so inflated, that you have completely lost track of the reality of the situation. Pales in comparison? You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

I love when the forum can be used to validate observations from out in the Real World. Like our very own societal petri dish.

That is the oldest story in the Middle East: governments inciting outrage toward Israel to deflect from their own wretched, corrupt institutions. In a hypothetical situation where every vote counted, and Muslim citizens were presented with two choices:

a)A fair, democratically representative, stable government
b)The destruction of Israel

Is there any doubt what the overwhelming majority would choose?

Well, here is someone explaining how much truth there is to that:

Well, here is someone who, unlike your Leftist friend from America, actually Grew up in Bethlehem. (not NJ or LA)
Where someone grew up does not take away from the facts pointed out in the video I provided?

Even if everything she says is true (and that's a very big if), this is still paradise next to what Palestinians undergo in other Arab countries. You can try and bash Israel with every other post you're unleashing, but it just confirms my point more.

They are mostly being oppressed by their own leaders......not by Israel.

Bashing Israel with very other post I'm unleashing? How dramatic. However, I'm afraid you're seeing things that aren't there.

If what she says is not true (and that's a very big if), that would be nice. Feel free to correct her misperceptions; that's what forums are for.

As for your paradise comment, am I to assume that in the event that a drunken neighbor slaps his wife twice a day, your advice to her is that she has nothing to complain about since the wife of another neighbor down the road gets punched five times and kicked hard every day? Using that kind of reasoning, it doesn't matter who does what to whom as long as someone else is suffering worse.

More babble. This thread is about Palestinians who aren't cared for by the world, but who are actually suffering hundredfold compared with those under Israeli control. Your attempt to hijack this thread and make it about Israel once again is a perfect confirmation of the author's point.

When your criticism of oppression towards Palestinians is proportional to their suffering, I'll be the first to applaud your concern. Until then, you're a hypocrite who's only interested in Palestinians when you can bash the Jews.

Well, I guess you can dictate the terms of when suffering is substantial enough to talk about if you need to. It is unfortunate that you have come to view the mentioning of people who suffer as an attack on those responsible.

At any rate, anyone is free to do the research to discover the truth of what she has said that life in Palestine is like. If you know that what she’s saying is not true, then I acknowledge your disagreement with her. And that’s where this ends.

EDIT: You did say in your OP: The international community pays attention to Palestinians only when they are "victims" of Israel. You can interpret my post and video as an answer to that, since I cannot recall mainstream media pointing out what the woman in the video was telling everyone.

Good day!

Good day!

Three odd paragraphs of either ignoring or missing my point.

Where someone grew up does not take away from the facts pointed out in the video I provided?

Would you care to summarize the points made by someone else? I don't think most people want to spend an hour watching that video to discern what your argument is.

In the first place, I would be accused of derailing the thread . . . again. In the second place, your lack of time is not my problem.

Neither is your ignorance ours.
I respected your request that I not derail your thread. Someone else who didn’t even care to read enough of this short thread to notice your request decides to post a question whose answer would further derail your thread. In response to his request that I continue to derail your thread, I tell him that I don’t wish to be accused of derailment again. In response to me bowing out of your thread, you decide to insult me. So, who is the ignorant one here?

I'm glad you decided not to derail this thread further. But your abstention to condemn in the least the actual evil done towards Palestinians by other Arabs denotes either your ignorance or your hypocrisy on this subject.

I don't approve of any abuses of anyone's human rights. You appear to want to assign degrees of evil to different situations. I'm sorry if don't see illegal settlements--the theft of land--as evil. And I'm sorry that you don't view the demolition of homes as evil.

If you are glad that I have decided to not derail your thread further, then stop calling me ignorant.

I may be glad, but if you leave slime on your way out, I'l make sure to clean it up.

Now you're derailing your own thread by flaming me. I'm sorry that you view my bringing attention to the illegal settlements and home demolitions and other issues explained in the video I provided as leaving slime for you to clean up.

You should be sorry. Gone are the days when we just sit idly by in silence when lies are spread. Keep talking about 'illegal settlements' and 'home demolitions' instead of the issue raised in the OP, and you're not actually derailing any thread - you're providing living proof for my original point.
