Anyone else sick and tired of the stupid poll threads that are cluttering up the site?

The only poll that matters is the one taken on election day (and this one of course). :2wave:

This is a laugh. First many Obama supporters at DP claimed there would be no bump following the RNC. This after months of pointing at the polls. Then as the "bump" numbers rose the efforts to ignore, decry and deny the polls began. Now that there is no doubt that McCain's polling numbers have increased, suddenly the polls don't matter?

Real grade school crap and just as obvious and dishonest as can be.

It has now been three days since the RNC ended and the contortions that some are going through in order to "not perceive" the new polling numbers has become very telling and quite amusing.

But yeah, the only real poll that matters is the actual election day vote. Which of course public polling can point to with some regards as to whom is most likely to win same.;)

As with money, poll results are just a way of keeping score until the final tally.

Although I do seem to recall having seen more than one set of poll results posted on these pages by Obama partisans.

I don't agree- I think all other polls can be usefull in gathering information based upon opinions of individuals. I say the more polls the better.

To make a poll, no matter how idiotic and redundant is still another way of forming a better roadmap for history.

More polls, less historians!

On some level perhaps. But polls can be easily manipulated to produce a desired outcome. Furthermore, polls can be easily influenced by recent events that will fade away by the time the real poll that matters comes.

As someone who spent too much time in statistics, I have to disagree with this. Many a poll are worthless based on methods.

The fact that these events will fade awa is the reason they are important to be recorded. Everything matters when it comes to politics. That means yesterday's news is just as important as today's.

There are things like common sense they don't teach in school. Even if a poll is useless based upon prediction, it may show a way in errors, or even the mindset of a time or era. Anything can be important to the open minded and inquisitive.
