The NHL 2011-2012 Thread

Pushed? He was sucker punched in the jaw. There is a reason the devils dumped rupp.

Ironically if rupp took that same hit, Mr glass jaw would have been knocked out.

Okay, it wasn't in the jaw, he hit more of the chest, and he does have a goalie helmet on, so it's more of being pushed unexpectedly and losing his balance then being knocked in the head. I've had my friend punch me really hard with hockey gloves on with my goalie helmet on, just to see what it's like, and while it wasn't it didn't hurt my head in anyway.

Watch again, lower part of mask by jaw. Snaps his neck to side.

Watch reverse angle.

I've dropped folk wearing full cages. The cage, mask acts as a leverage multiplying torque on the head and neck.

Punching across like that is not the same as a straight on punch. Have your buddies punch you "as hard as they can" at your lower right jaw. Let me know how that feels. ;)

You have dropped people with a little push while you where skating away from them? Really? Why do I not believe you?

I have, and he punched him in the chest, and caught the very bottom of his mask, which hangs down below the chin, and is not the same as punching the head. Your homerism is blinding you, it was a cheap shot, but he made contact with the chest more than his head.

And my friend punched me in the side, not head on ;)

Because you are a casual observer of the game, I am a player who grew up playing watching living the game to this very day..
.

Wasn't a push. It was a punch to the lower portion of the goalie mask multiplying force that snapped martyr's neck to the side.

When in my case you drop gloves with a hump wearing a full cage. You cant rip his helmet off. You get a bigger suspension. You instead look to hit across and up the lower jaw area hoping to pop his helmet, if not hoping to ring his bell from the whiplash... in the manner which marty's head snapped. You don't fake that snap.

Dropping the other guy like that is a rare occurance
. But it foes happen.

Consider yourself educated now.

If you still want to whine like torts. Watch the video again....

He says it was the hardest hit he's ever received like that.

Most in the media agree.

Only that dirtbag tortorella and you seem to take issue with Marty not rupp.

I think the redwings sucking is affecting your common sense..

You should wax all that hockey knowledge you have and call the devils "boring" again..... that's always riveting analysts of the game..

So Marty faked snapping his head like that? Really....

The falling back into the net and all that, possibly embelished more like catching himself. When Marty embeleshes its usually much more dramatic. The punch and head snap. Not embelleshed...

The emotional overload in this post is telling Rev. Your emotions are ruling. The announcers, who played actual real hockey not pick up games, called it a push for gods sake.

From the front angle, it looks like a push. The reverse angle does show his head snapping to the left. It's not like he dropped and acted like Mike Smith did. How come the helmet didn't leave Smith unfazed when he was hit by Shaw?

Emotional? Lol.....

I played AA didn't go onto juniors cause I joined the AF and am a realist.

anyway..... today's beer league is still a long way off from your xbox league.

A "push" is not a "cheap shot" . That wasn't a push.... sorry you cant replicate that move with your r2 button.

You never answered me either. Was prusts elbow just more devils whining?

If you read the thread, you would know I said Prust deserved the suspension he got. I am not emotionally invested in this series, so I don't have to have faces and heals, good guys and bad. Both teams have things they are doing that I don't think appropriate, something you don't seem to be able to see.

Three of my concussions came while wearing a hockey helmet. :prof

As for the incident. Marty played it down its over. But the idea that ones neck snaps like that from a push is laughable in its ignorance.

See now you are just jibber jabberring. Lundwuist looks like a 95 brodeur and despite the rags being outplayed 10 out of 12 periods and through ttheir whole run. Their defence and goalie have given them a great chance.

I don't mind this rangers team other than tortorella its a respectable team.

Rivarlies are dead in hockey. Bettman making the product so generic does that.

Philthy. Well they are just animals.

You forgot to call it boring and other jewels of hockey insight....

More like him moving his head from an unseen incoming object, come on now.

The falling back into the net and all that, possibly embelished more like catching himself. When Marty embeleshes its usually much more dramatic. The punch and head snap. Not embelleshed...

I don't think he embellished falling back, I think he was surprised and was doing everything he could to catch himself.

Though it would be nice to see Moose in the playoffs so I wouldn't mind Marty getting hurt.

That would not look like that. /facepalm

Other than Avery, I wouldn't wish injury to any hockey player. Even hartnell...

Chicago needs a Probert. Then the Chicago rivalries would be more noticeable.

Too bad Kane is an asswipe only after the games. :2razz:

They should trade him. He has value, but he makes the same amount as Toews and he isn't worth it. We could get something for him. Someone is going to break him in half one of these days and it should probably be a Canadian team.

You're not going to convince me you know hockey by saying silly **** like this. Rivalry is alive and well in the NHL.

Damn.... And here i was trying to convince people on a political debate board of my hockey knowledge..... :ssst:

Please tell me boston ny, boston habs, nyi nyr, nj philly is the same as it was even 10 years ago.

No in todays NHL we have fake rivaralies between coyotes and la (or is it anaheim). And other idiotic fake rivaralies.

Or who was it detroit or chi town and ****in columbus. Another dumb fake rivaraly....

Btw ny is the center of the hockey universe isles rags philly jersey all within 2 hrs of each other. Add in boston pitts and wash, 4 hrs.

East coast is hockey.

I remember hearing that nj had a rivaraly with carolina.... What?????

We had a bigger ine with toronto.

Don't go changing the goal posts, Rev. You said rivalry is dead in the NHL. I completely disagree.

The Habs and Boston have been going at it forever, it seems. And Edmonton and Calgary is about as intense as it gets, despite the lack of history. These are just 2 at the top of my head.

Sure, there may be some manufactured rivalries, but please don't go saying that all the rest is fake too.

Edmonton and calgary is as fake as it gets. if it was a molson theu would figjt over it.

Ive been to a boston habs game this year.... Meh..... There is a "riviay" but its long been neutered and maybe slighlty more energy than any east coast game visitor.

Then again with the habs sucking like the islanders thier busloads of fans (do they even have jobs) were all but missin this year.

I was also in the garden in the 70s when boston jumped the fans.... Come now... There isnt a comparison today.

Not the same. Its generic, all the arenas play the same lame ass music, and program, and the media hypes bs long distance rivarlies....

Its like the same idiots that call the devils boring. First they are boring cause of the trap. Then they dont play the trap for years..... Now they play a heavy fore check game. A 3-2 system. 3 ****in 2 but hey. They are "boring" because the casual fan hears what melrose and the like tell them and go off what they have been told not from thier own observations...z

Sorry for the rant but the game and its production has changed and. Not all for the better.....

You're not going to convince me you know hockey by saying silly **** like this. Rivalry is alive and well in the NHL.

Remember, it's the same guy who referred to the "defensively suspect west", despite the fact that the west has 7 of the top 10 defensive teams, while the east has most of the top 10 worst defensive teams. Even the conference finals, after 4 games, more goals allowed in the east than west.

Reality check: the Devils are boring because they are not creative, not because of the trap. Putting words in other people's mouths is not nice...
