The Media Tried To Raise A Red Tsunami, ButThe Only Thing Washed Away Is Their Credibility

If the DNC had gotten behind Ryan I believe he could have won nonetheless we have not heard the last of him. I would love to see him run in 2024! The Dems really blew this one.

I think he was a good candidate too, but that state is fickle as hell and as the results from the night tell us, it was gonna be tough sledding for a Dem in Ohio last night.

Agreed, but how do you explain Ohio? Of all the Democratic campaigns, Ryan's was one of the best. The other excellent campaign was right next door, with Shapiro trouncing his MAGA opponent. What's in the water in Ohio?
Given that I don't know what's in the water either, I'm getting my hydration via Absolut Vodka. Only way to be safe.

Joking aside, I too thought Ryan ran a great race and really thought he would beat Vance. But not only did he lose, he lost convincingly. That I truly don't understand.

Steubenville rape scandals and a lot of meth.
And Traci Lords is PISSED OFF, so is her mother.
They were both raped years before, Traci when she was TEN.

That's Ohio.
Here now!
Steubenville not only borders rural WVA, but is 3 times closer to Pittsburgh than it is to any other major city in Ohio. It has little in common with the majority of the state.

The most accurate depiction of Ohio is the scenes in Silence of the Lambs where Agent Starling is wandering around the old farmhouse where victim Frederika Bimmel grew up and the subsequent scene in the cafe where Starling interviews her best friend.

Yeah....he knows the Washington Generals are losers.......or as some here say "loosers".
He's giving the Generals and billion to one odds. What do you have to lose? Just bet a few dollars, and leave the box checked.

This isn't a personal attack.
I have a ton of friends stuck in Ohio, and tons of friends in Texas and Oklahoma.
All of them are wonderful people that I've known for more than twenty years, but it doesn't change the fact that they're stuck living in these meth soaked rapey places.
I lived in the Deep South for thirteen years, ten of them in Dallas, and I grew up in Maryland and I know Ohio like the back of my hand.

I think Steubenville is in Appalachia.
I read this article years ago and the author turned it into a book.... worth a read.....I'm re-reading it myself.

I think that once again the media underestimated Biden and his political instincts. CNN has been clobbering his messaging these last few weeks so I can only imagine what Fox was doing. Well they were dead wrong he was right on his messaging and it paid off.

Steubenville was once home to one of the largest producers of pottery and steel in the world.
It's a decaying Rust Belt town now, with all the attendant problems.

I kind of expected the Democrats to lose the House, but I wasn't so sure about the Senate.

I believe Trump hurt the Senate races far more than he and his base want to admit.
Blaming tRump is a dodge. MAGA was a Rabid Right movement tRump latched onto and rode to 'glory'. How quickly the MAGA morons booed tRump for daring to suggest vaccines are good.... :cautious:

He was their poster child and now DeSantis is rising up to lead the Great White Umbrage.

The mechanics involved in electing Representatives vs Senators hurt the GOP. In the House many Republican Representatives have highly gerrymandered districts where the most radical candidate is rewarded with the nomination. A Senator has no engineered protection. He/she represents half the state, and the mix of political mindsets work against extremism. Johnson of Wisconsin had a tough fight to retain his seat. His MAGA defense of Jan6th and support of overturning Roe v Wade made what should have been an easy run a knife fight. His approval rating was lower than Biden's (whose numbers MAGA point to at every chance as horrible)

tRump is just an easy whipping boy for what hurt the GOP's 'red wave'. Rabid Right rhetoric, the touchstone of MAGA politicians, hurt usually reliable large losses in Congress in a midterm... ✌️

The Generals have been a pushover for the Globetrotters ever since Red Klotz passed away.
That kid was a dynamo!!

No worries. I was just pointing out that Steubenville has little in common with 90% of the population of Ohio. It is an Appalachian river town, just like the one Clarice Starling visits in Silence of the Lambs.

You wouldn't visit Buffalo NY and presume NYC looks and feels the same, or have similar acting people. Pretty much the same thing.

Here’s what’s absolutely certain: Republicans hugely underperformed. They underperformed versus expectations for the out-of-White House party for any midterm, and they underperformed the expectations that both they and the media had set for them so badly that it’s almost impossible to find the right measure of their failure.

And all this happened with tremendous support for Republicans up and down the media. It wasn’t just Fox News carrying their water every day, it was every three-letter broadcast network, every 24/7 news channel, and every supposedly neutral political site. Here’s an absolutely 24K gold example from Politico. Their own polls showed Democrats ahead in critical races in and in generic preference. But this is what they wrote, completely ignoring what the polls—again, their own polls—were telling them.

They declared the results of their own poll an outlier. And what was Nate Silverman doing over at 538? He was busy defending a decision to add dozens of last minute “polls” put together by Republican outfits no one had ever heard of before, which were clearly designed for no reason other than to give the false appearance of a Republican surge. His response: Democrats should just put out their own fake polls to “balance” the results.

I wonder if this is in part an overcorrection by pollsters worried about how they were viewed after 2016 and 2020.

I've been everywhere in Ohio, from Xenia to Steubenville, to Cinncinatti, to Cleveland, Dayton, Youngstown, and nearly everywhere in between.
I know the difference between Steubenville and the other parts of the state.
The Ohio state of mind however, is fairly consistent among the more conservative electorate.

The media still had credibility?

Nice rant.

THIS is not reinforcing their credibility much:

They are now going WITH "Democrats won, here's why that's bad for Biden!"
It's like peristalsis after you've eaten ten cans of Bush's Baked Beans with a prune juice chaser.

Yeah, the polling has become basically useless. Though I am sure Nate Silver is already explaining how he technically got it exactly right despite giving the Democrats less than a 1 in 6 chance of keeping the Senate, let alone gaining seats.
He gave them 55 to 45 odds as of Monday.

I heard or saw someone theorize that they're after Biden because he put a tax of some kind on corporations, and they're corporations.
Edit: I'd need to check into that to be sure it was true though.

Peristalsis????
I had to look that one up.
