Democrats argued shutting down the government would destroy the economy, therefore Republicans were evil for their part in the shutdown. But, if Democrats truly believed, why did they let it close? Shouldn't they have negotiated? Aren't Democrats by their own admission, the purveyors of evil?
From Republican perspective, they did not think shutting down the government would have a big effect and therefore, there was little reason to negotiate to avoid such a shut-down. By their own logic, Republicans were completely responsible and reasonable.
Of course, Republican's were correct, in that the government shut-down has had little effect. The fact they were correct only bolsters their bargaining position. Democrats on the other hand proved they were willing to destroy the country, rather than negotiate.
Who do you want running things? The idiots (idiots, because they were wrong) who want to destroy the country or the smart ones who want nothing more than to run things responsibly?
