The last boats without crippling tariffs from China are arriving. The countdown to shortages and higher prices has begun (1 Viewer)

no, i want you to answer a simple question. - when did republicans cut tariffs to zero? name the year.
but apparently you can't., despite your deperate attempt to move the goalposts and try to deflect about taxes on the wealthy
because tariffs are a national policy, of both parties, and calling them a democratic policy is stupid.

I think you missed his point.

no it doesnt
what a stupid question. lol

Correct!

Now let's think through it: WHY is it stupid to ask a question that presupposes that anything less than an absolute rejection of a thing equals group support for a thing?

Meanwhile, back i the real world Trump infests....

Wow. That was an awesome find. Perfectly succinct, and chock-full of hard data presented in a an easy to follow logical & clear fashion. This guy's an excellent explainer!

Perhaps the overarching standout for me:

"Global trade is slowing. When global trade slows, the global economy follows"

And that, my dear friends, is all we need to know!

If Trump don't cease & desist, he & we are dead meat. I'm fully convinced.

now lets think through WHY you refuse to answer a simple question - why dont republicans set tariffs to zero if that's a policy of theirs?
are republicans unaware of tarrifs? too busy to set them to zero? too stupid to set them to zero?

Republicans are ****ed come mid-terms and they know it.
Enjoy bare shelves people.
Fake news. The left is just hoping for doom. Tariffs are a powerful tool to shape American consumption and investment and they were representative of our most prosperous era in U.S. economic history... you know, when children and immigrants worked in terrible conditions while a ultra select few reaped the rewards.

**** being the world's reserve currency. We want autarky!

And you are prematurely jumping with glee 18 months before the elections.
Now that is either pessimism for the country as a whole or optimism for the opposition.

Republicans are totally ****ed. People won’t forget how Trump intentionally ruined our economy. It has already started, now it’s just a question of how long it takes Trump and the sycophants around him figure out how badly they screwed up. Based on the ABC News interview with Terry Moran where he had a meltdown over the photoshopped ms-13 image it’s clear that Trump is totally detached from reality.

The thing that worries me most is that Fox News and other right wing media are basically covering for Trump and downplaying likely effects of tariffs. I am afraid the tariffs will last a long time and it’s only after Trump supporters start losing their jobs on a massive scale that support for tariffs will start to fade. It will take about 4 to 6 months for it to really kick in and then when it does the effects will be devastating. It will take years to recover economically.

A lot of people think Trump isn’t that stupid, but he is, and he doesn’t have the same people he had in the first administration who checked his worse impulses around him anymore

Historically for the last century the party that holds both houses and the presidency loses at midterms . And the GOP is more than ensuring that they are indeed ****ed come midterms.
They’re digging a huge hole they’re not gonna be able to crawl out of for quite a while.

If it were really their policy they would have already overruled the president. It isn't.

It's going to take more than a year to clean this mess up even if we started today.

We're not starting today.

I'll be happy if the Opposition waits until 100 days before the November 2026 mid-terms just like Kamala had to before she flamed out on November 5th last year.

If they lose I hope it's only by a couple of votes. Makes it tougher to get anti-Trump legislation through for Trump to veto.

I don't he's totally detached from reality. He simply has created his own reality and, incredibly, he got 77 million voters to go along with his strange version of reality.

American consumers will survive. American manufacturers will eventually pick up some of the slack and other countries who don't have 145% tariffs will, also.

China? Unless they take some drastic steps like subsidizing their manufacturers or devaluing their currency, a BIG chunk of their sales (and income) will dry up and blow away. Chinese manufacturers will disappear.

Or...the Chinese government can open negotiations with the Trump administration.
No they won't. You need 6 months at least before anything shows up.

I have no interest in paying and waiting more for your stupid policies.

no, but things will get worse.

your attempt at sarcastic exaggeration is a fail.
you want it to

"worse" was shown to use first two years of Biden - we'll know how this all goes by fall 2028

24 months they soared

I've seen nothing go up but egg's and that's because of 2024 chicken deaths

I shop literally everyday
Gas just jumped 40 cents here.
So....just add this to the list of subjects you know nothing about

now lets think through WHY you refuse to answer a simple question -

Fortunately, we don't have to, because I've repeatedly explained to you that you are attempting to shift goalposts, and adopting an argument to do so that presupposes that a failure to achieve absolute opposition to a thing is the same as group support for a thing.

why dont republicans set tariffs to zero if that's a policy of theirs?

Why don't Democrats raise tax rates to 100% if raising taxes on the rich is a traditional policy of theirs?

Why don't Republicans lower income tax rates to zero if lower taxes on the high income is a traditional policy of theirs?

You yourself claimed it was stupid to label Trump the Democrat candidate, but isn't it true that a non-zero number of Democrats voted for him? Clearly - by the reasoning you have attempted to bring to bear - he was a Democrat candidate.

nope. he's trying to deflect and failing

No. You have - in an attempt to delink the Democrat party from a broad policy position that now "codes Trump" - retreated to an argument that is ridiculous.
