In coronavirus pandemic, Trump allies say they're ready to die for the economy

Conservative supporters of President Trump are increasingly volunteering to risk death - and implicitly the deaths of elderly and at-risk Americans - from the coronavirus if it will help the economy.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Brit Hume and Glenn Beck all implied or said that they would be willing to risk their lives to keep the economy going. This is the wrong message and a severe case of wing-nuttery.

I think we can fight the disease and eventually ease the business lockdown simultaneously. I do NOT advocate dying or sacrificing lives to reopen the economy. Though, I believe this needs to be put into context. At some point the cure can become worse than the disease but this is not that time.

Patrick should volunteer in a nursing/long term care facility where C19 is present

They only talk the talk, I doubt they are willing to walk the walk.

The RWNJ's have given us an interesting pivot. Just a few weeks ago they were calling warnings about the Corona Virus a hoax. Now they're saying it's okay for people to die of it in the name of the economy. What's next?

It's a cult.

Hell, the Dow is up again today at 1,295. I have no doubt Trump is willing to throw at it whatever it takes to keep the economy going, including printing money.

Corporate CEO's paying families to sacrifice granny and grandpa for a payout?

If it goes up a bunch today I'll sell some etfs. We'll be cruising for a bruising this summer, probably as soon as tomorrow.

After this $6 trillion stimulus, I'm not sure the Fed or Congress has got much more.

That may be easy to say if it is not you who has been told to suck it up and stop working your 'non-essential' job. Do you not find it tad strange that not one federal job has been subjected to being "put on hold" and it's worker told to file for unemployment?

Lol, it's always been "okay for people to die of it in the name of the economy". Think about it.

That's not very controversial. The real question is the risk/reward ratio.

My question is, will your dear leader sacrifice himself "in the name of the economy", or does he only expect us little people to do it?

Death panels are not controversial for Republicans?

Like the title said, Kool-Aid Brigade.

Just so you know, this is a contagious disease, so whatever risks you may be comfortable taking for yourself, can impact others. You don't live on a libertarian fantasy island, you live in a nation of diverse people.

I'm not willing to die or sacrifice lifes just yet. Call me crazy.

Like old guys send young people to war

I have my own back check when I make a difficult decision and reflect on it, and stupid ones as well

"Lord if ya took all the stupid people out of the world, would I still be here"?

That might be because Trump is unwilling to do that. He seems to want business as usual.

And the Cult sucks it all up, new orders from On High, and they pivot yet again

I don't think anyone plans to sacrifice themselves.

It's always been the case that some people profit from the deaths of others. To cause the deaths of others for profit has always been a crime.

Wanting less mandatory and indefinite layoffs is not business as usual. BTW, not a peep about there being no 'non-essential' federal employee layoffs.

you not paying attention? Wealthy Republicans like Beck is saying he will, and he's advising older Americans (who are largely GOP voters), to do the same.

I'm not about to expose myself to a nasty disease and risk death to save corporate wealth.
