(The Hill) Pritzker says Texas Democrats who fled state will be protected amid arrest threats

Their constituents didn't vote Dem to support the MAGA cause, dcsports.
Again, "MAGA" is a strawman.

Again, they elected their representatives to .... represent... them in the legislature. Not to refuse to represent them.

(Just saw the thread and have not read through it. Somebody else may have mentioned this.)

Fifteen years ago the democrats in the Wisconsin State Legislature pulled the same stunt and fled their capitol to avoid a vote.

Curiously they too ran to Illinois. (Personally think Minnesota would have been a cooler place to hide out.)

..

I'm inclined to support legislation such as this, especially when applied to the number of House representatives and districts - these need to represent US citizens, and not just someone living in a locale.

For allocation of federal money to those states, well, that'd be a discussion / negotiation then separate from the above representation of US citizens issue.

I don't see how legislation of this nature would pass SCOTUS. I believe it will take an Amendment.

Texas is trying to cheat in the next election at the direction of a corrupt p[resident and an equally corrupt governor. Using every legal means to delay or stop this action is exactly what these representative should be doing.
How is voting on legislation 'cheating'? The only 'cheating' is people using a rule to prevent the legislature from meeting.

The Democrat's extremist libs and progs are doing that choosing the 20% position of an 80% / 20% issue.
I don't have to do a single thing, they self inflicted that on themselves.
Keep it up. I believe you are wrong and I believe the GOP is overplaying its hand. There really is nothing else for me to write at this point, but if you wish to continue justifying yourself, go ahead.

Gerrymandered to ensure Democrat political power, a single party state, Maryland, Illinois, New York following in California's footsteps.

What is more totalitarian than a single political party state?
Actual, literal, totalitarian models of government.

You’re lying about California’s independent commission map, @eohrnberger .
You are lying if you deny the Democrat's machine politics in California.

Democrats should wipe the rest of the GOP districts in CA and NY.
There's a difference between gerrymandering the GOP into irrelevance and completely wiping any GOP districts out, as you appear to be supporting.

The end effect is the same, but there is a difference, none the less.

Talk of the commission maps in AZ and CO that heavily favor Republican’ts.
You can’t make a GOP district in Maryland without gerrymandering FOR the GOP.

Texas law enforcement has no jurisdiction in Illinois, right?
Even if they'd go there, they wouldn't have any authority to do anything but visit there.

Exactly. Which is why I believe Pritzker is on firm ground, here.

Too often when the nation thinks of "Illinois" the see rural cornfields.

But Illinois has a staunch & storied history of unionism & antifascism.

Haymarket. Pullman. Virden. To name a few . . .

Hopefully.

Whitmer, too.

The Northern States suffer far less MAGA oppression, but hopefully that will not lead to complacency.
I live in Christian County in Illinois. The Mine Wars are no joke.

Fascists! Drink! Seriously, you guys overuse the hell out of that word every time something isn't how you think it should be.
There were people like you in Germany too.

I dunno. This is one of the present administration's issues, and I'm willing to see how it unfolds.
What I don't think is arguable is the idea that representation in US government (local, state or federal) should only count US citizens for their apportionment.
It's just common sense that US government should represent its citizens, and not a population count which includes everyone.

I'm not so sure about that. As another poster expressed, I too have some doubts about that.

If there are examples, given none of us at DP can remember any, I'll posit they would be few and far between.

JB Pritzker gets three awful adjectives in front of his name now.
GOPutiNazis & their media are running with ‘Socialist’ all day long.

If you'd like to substitute GOP for MAGA, feel free. Same result.

Yes, yes. The Soviet Union, China, and North Korea are known for their vibrant political descent. Just like California, and Maryland, Illinois, New York soon to be the same.

The bolded depends upon what you want? Lots of lakes with great fishing, or a world-class cosmopolitan city?

Still is a silly statement.

These democrats don't have to support the bill. If they are opposed, they should be vocal in the debate and vote 'no'. Removing themselves from the process and hiding in another state isn't representing their constituents. It's putting party above the people they are supposed to represent.

Trump could send in his ICE SSoldiers to Chicago to arrest these DEMs.
TX GOPs have done this apartheid, south african GM before, flipping six seats in 2003.
