The first boats carrying Chinese goods with 145% tariffs are arriving in LA. Shipments are cut in half. Expect shortages soon (1 Viewer)

Prices are already rising. We can't be proven wrong because the worst predictions are already coming true. There can always be an argument on just how bad it gets. But the winning argument there is it didn't have to get bad at all. Trump did all of this. You can't fire 240 thousand people, cancel all sorts of government services, raise prices on just about everything and claim people aren't going to suffer. And for what?

Trump claims he struck a huge trade deal with the UK. The problem is, we already had an $11.5B dollar surplus with the UK. America was already winning with that one. What did he accomplish other than confusion?
If total trade between us and the UK was 1 Trillion and this deal grows the total to 2T I would say that is a win for both countries. Generally speaking that would double the surplus you referenced.

ShrugThere's a real in touch post, LOL!
Fellow MAGA poster wanted Dollar Stores to close. 🤷‍♂️

And not one MAGA is pissed that prices aren’t going down. MAGA cheer higher prices because Trump is in charge.
“Suck it up!” is the new MAGA mantra.

When you cite the White House as a reference, you lose

But it's okay for China to do that for decades?
Re read my post. It's not OK but punishing American consumers and small businesses is not the answer. Like most things Trump isn't wrong on the issue but catastrophic on the solution.

Hey. Good luck with your monthly bills.

Sorry, I won't join you in portraying China as the victim. The Communist Red Chinese are evil, and they've been screwing us over for years. It's about time this country stood up.
The communist MAGA now stands up to hurt Americans and have them suffer for the glory of Dear Leader!

There’s FOOD in those stores. Plenty of people rely on them for cheap food and household items for their families.
Yes, and it comes in tiny, overpriced packages. If you're trying to save money by buying FOOD at the dollar store, you're doing it wrong.

Not vindictive or sociopathic at all.
There is nothing of value from these dollar stores. Better off at the local food pantry if you need assistance.
People in need likely use both. Food pantries can only provide so much.

If you’ve ever been to a food pantry, or a dollar store, or even a thrift store, you would better understand.

Come on Henry,

2$ for hallmark cards here, a mystery cabinet there, and all of us could be amongst the most wealthy retirees in America.

Think of the possiblities, man.

😅
Laugh away you dollar store sell outs.

Okay: Trump says we have a $200 billion trade deficit with Canada. He is wrong.

Canada 🤣

They are being very foolish. The longer they maintain their tough guy act, the less there will be on the table for them. Trump isn't just implementing tariffs. He is changing how much buisiness we do with each country. The last one to make a deal will end up with the least.

We'll have to see about the fixing.
I agree. Which is why certain factions should stop trying to sabotage our economy by fear mongering, trying to shake consumer confidence. Let it play out and we will see where we are on the other side.

Dollar stores aren't used for primarily groceries. People mainly use them for inexpensive household and personal items as well as party supplies.
They do sell junk food but they also sell cheap pantry staples like rice and beans.
I buy mouthwash from the dollar store because it's way cheaper than at any other store.

Objectively observing isn't fear mongering.

Better off at a thrift store for non food items.
They don’t carry all the same products. Thrift stores are great for cloths and housewares. Dollar stores for cleaning supplies and some limited food and personal hygiene items.

Seeing as you’re royally, I must assume you’ve never been to any of these kinds of stores.

Yeah tons of countries have raw materials like nickel, bauxite, aluminum, lumber, oil, electricity etc that can be shipped for cheap! Other than cars that's pretty much what we export to the US.

So if no Chinese goods at dollar store, what countries are filling the shelves?
Likely many of the goods sold in stores like Dollar General are made in China. Just the same, the vast majority of goods shipped from China are not sold in Dollar Stores. The point being that these tariffs will not just impact Dollar Stores or the people that shop at them.

That’s generally true, but ‘dollar stores’ often offer products in smaller sizes. While the ‘dollar store’ price may be a bit higher (than Walmart) per ounce, count or serving, many folks (on tight budgets) can’t afford volume discounts without limiting the variety of items they need (want?) immediately. Another factor is that ‘dollar stores’ are often located closer to where folks live, allowing walking or bicycling to/from them.
