Once-secret documents reveal the FBI monitored Occupy Wall Street from its earliest days and treated the nonviolent movement as a potential terrorist threat. Internal government records show Occupy was treated as a potential threat when organizing first began in August of 2011. Counterterrorism agents were used to track Occupy activities, despite the internal acknowledgment that the movement opposed violent tactics. The monitoring expanded across the country as Occupy grew into a national movement, with FBI agents sharing information with businesses, local police agencies and universities. We’re joined by Mara Verheyden-Hilliard of the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, which obtained the FBI documents through the Freedom of Information Act. "We can see, decade after decade, with each social justice movement, that the FBI conducts itself in the same role over and over again, which is to act really as the secret police of the establishment against the people," Verheyden-Hilliard says. Watch @: The FBI vs. Occupy: Secret Docs Reveal "Counterterrorism" Monitoring of OWS from Its Earliest Days
Typical. Any left wing social justice movement is always treated as a "potential terrorist threat" here in the US. Each and every time a left wing movement has gotten steam and became popular in the US its always a "potential threat", civil rights, anti war movement, labor movement. You have the freedom to protest apparently only under the careful watch of the FBI in this country. Big brother at its finest.

That's because most of the terrorism that has occured in the United States since the late 19th Century has come from Left wing social justice movements.
we can be assured the fbi similarly monitors the tea party and its functions
it casts a wide net
no one should be surprised
No way it is monitoring the Tea Party as an organisation. Such monitoring would have started under Bush.. and yea right!
Plus if that got out that they were.. the right wing would go ape**** with Fox News leading the charge.
The FBI monitors anything that could present a significant threat.
It doesn't matter who is in office.
Sure....... that is why Oklahoma terror attack was prevented right?
FBI Spent Years Infiltrating Patriots Movement, Completely Missed Timothy McVeigh - Hit & Run : Reason.comStarting in April 1991, three FBI agents posed as members of an invented racist militia group called the Veterans Aryan Movement. According to their cover story, VAM members robbed armored cars, using the proceeds to buy weapons and support racist extremism. The lead agent was a Vietnam veteran with a background in narcotics, using the alias Dave Rossi.
Code-named PATCON, for "Patriot-conspiracy," the investigation would last more than two years, crossing state and organizational lines in search of intelligence on the so-called Patriot movement, the label applied to a wildly diverse collection of racist, ultra-libertarian, right-wing and/or pro-gun activists and extremists who, over the years, have found common cause in their suspicion and fear of the federal government.
The undercover agents met some of the most infamous names in the movement, but their work never led to a single arrest. When [Oklahoma City bomber Timothy] McVeigh walked through the middle of the investigation in 1993, he went unnoticed.

Oh for gods sake...You do realize that no amount of monitoring is going to see everything, right?
Yes I do.. but do you and your fellow citizens?
My whole point is, that society in general have been ignoring right wing groups thanks to Fox News and the right wing media spin machine and suddenly when you point out that most terror in the US is actually from the right wing, not from the left wing (that was in the 70s!), then you get attacked.
Look at the attacks since 9/11... name one left wing plot. There are plenty of right wing plots.. yes muslim "plots" are right wing... but where are the left wing plots to destroy a building or similar? No where.
Looking at OWS is nothing but utter bull**** and a waste of time. If anything they should be looking into the abuse of police power against OWS in several cities but nooo.. the right wing spin machine have made OWS the bad guys for demanding justice when it comes to the banks and bankers who drove the economy into the ground.. pathetic. If anything, the FBI should be monitoring and openly investigating morons like Hannity and Limburger, not mostly peaceful protesters wanting justice.

Whats funny, is libertarians love to say that libertarianism is anti-rich ....
Your ignorance of the US is staggering. Looking at OWS and the Tea Party is precisely what the FBI should do, at least until such time as they are proven to be not a threat. No one is ignoring anything. Those of us who actually live here and know what people talk about and think, we know that people are aware of right wing terrorism. Thank you for playing, but it was not a very good effort.
To be fair, only one of those movements routinely engaged in law breaking and violence. OWS, for example, is backed by Anonymous, who attacked the Pentagon.
