Texas high school sends Black student back to in-school suspension over his locs hairstyle

Why is the color of the student even in the headline?

Why is the color of the student even in the headline?

C'mon now. :ROFLMAO:

Skin color is the holy grail of winning debates on a forum, as well as the usual moronic white liberals feeling good about themselves.

You're right........it could have been a white kid and the leftists would have totally dismissed the story.

So rules are brought about by power tripping jerks?
When it comes to face offs over hair, just about always YES.

Dozens of Federal Cases over the last 50+ years related to males wearing longhair in public school already exist.

I entered 7th grade public school in the Orlando area of Florida in 1968. When the Dean of Boys told me to get a haircut, I promptly obeyed. By 8th grade, I became less timid and took evasive actions. My family relocated about 50 miles away to Lakeland FL mid-year 8th grade. My new principal referenced a Supreme Court case and did not bother me about my hair length.

I side with the student in this OP story.

I side with him about his hair... not his other behavior which is part of why he was suspended.

Short hair minimizes transmission of lice.
And black people are more likely to have lice? I guarantee there are kids with longer hair at his high school.

Maybe they think 'neat and tidy' is better?
I don't see why, seems like a personal decision. None of their business. Wholly unrelated to education.
They think it is a rule worth having and enforcing...
Obviously.

I think they are stupid fir thinking that.

For the most part it seems pretty stupid... but I think that the real issue is the kid's behavior.

A Texas high school sent a Black student back to in-school suspension Tuesday for refusing to change his hairstyle, renewing a monthslong standoff over a dress code policy the teen’s family calls discriminatory.

The student, Darryl George, was suspended for 13 days because his hair is out of compliance when let down, according to a disciplinary notice issued by Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, Texas. It was his first day back at the school after spending a month at an off-site disciplinary program.

George, 18, already has spent more than 80% of his junior year outside of his regular classroom.

Life in Taxes!
Greg Poole, who has been district superintendent since 2006, has said the policy is legal and teaches students to conform as a sacrifice benefitting everyone.
To me, this is the truly disturbing part. It's like 1984 down in that state. o_O

Photo of me in junior high in Lakeland FL, maybe 1970, age 14. Well groomed at a school dance sitting on a chair. My hair length in that photo violated dress code for boys in most Florida public schools at the time.

Statistics.
share your statistics which tell us that it will not be possible for the student in question to become a day trader

Schools really don't need different rules for hair for boys and girls anymore.

That's not really just about this rule, but in general, schools should just have the same requirements regardless of gender.

Disagree.

The school is discriminating, and it needs to cost the principal and the superintendent their jobs. The right wing has always had a problem with this type of behavior. Now it needs to start costing them large amounts of money.

Or.....and hear me out here.....OR....the kid can simply follow the dress code like everyone else?

(I like my idea better)

Let’s start with the easy part. With what money?
where are the statistics you insisted would prove this student could not become a day trader?
or was that a bullshit claim?

😆

When I saw the picture of the young man, I had to wonder what the heck is the issue? It's neat, it's out of his face, and it looks good. Sometimes people just seem to get on a power trip and don't want to back down.
From what I read in the article the problem is not when he wears it up, but rather when he wears it down.

Its a shame. Hope the kid can get things worked out. The stupid things we battle over.

Only 5.5% of day traders are black men. He’s exponentially more likely to spend his days in prison. His disregard for rules points to the later.

But the stars at night are big & bright...

His behavior isn't the story. His dress code is.

if it breaches dress code it does

if he gets exception for hair, what other exceptions will be made, MAGA shirts ? fair is fair, right ?

adhere to the dress codes

What behavior?

His behavior isn't the story. His dress code is.
From the story:

“School officials said George was sent to the disciplinary program for violating the dress code and the tardy policy, disrupting the in-school suspension classroom and not complying with school directives.”

That’s a nice way of saying that he often doesn’t show for school and when he does he disrupts classrooms and he’s insubordinate.
