Texas Gov Announces Investigation Into Case Of Mother Transitioning 7-Year-Old James Younger Against

I've heard the same argument presented for forcing young children to attend religious services they don't fully understand, under threat of eternal hellfire, should the child reject the doctrine, to be a form of child abuse. t.e. forcing a non-believing child to transition to a believing child.
100% agreement.

My parents tried to force me to believe but I have a functional frontal lobe. Even at an early age, my BS detector worked very well. That nun sent so many letters home to my mom about my refusal to just believe and my asking so many questions that I was convinced that they ere pen pals.

I am convinced that children must be prohibited from religious services until they are an adult and can make their own decsion about wanting to attend services and become a member.

Not quite the same thing.

At a point, true, a child, actually more like a teenager, who doesn't want to continue to attend religious services shouldn't have to.

A 3 year old, or even a 7 year, old doesn't have the maturity or mental capacity to decide either of these things.

I've been a religious skeptic since I was six, and voiced my opinion to not be forced to attend religious services. Some kids mature earlier than others. That I was forced to attend anyway, just caused strife for me personally, and family discourse. I also had a younger brother who used to freak out when attending church services, because he constantly lived with the fear of going to hell if he didn't buy into what he didn't feel in his gut was actual truth. So, at least in my experience, there can be damage involved in forcing a child to attend these services they prefer not to. It's a form of brainwashing anyway one chooses to slice it, or however they opt to spin it, IMO.

More so a certainly, from my view.
She's been pushing to transition since the child was 3 years old to the opposite sex.
A 3 year old child has no concept about 'sex', in the adult sense, nor what gender transition entails physically or emotionally.

This is an insane parent abusing their child. Parental rights for this mother should be terminated on that basis.

Well, she may well be insane, but she also has a LOT of enabler$...

Is telling the truth a problem for you?

Who is supporting her if she is abusing this child?

If this child has legitimate transgendered feelings then she needs to be receiving the proper care.

Oh totally the same thing...

Their Drs and therapists failed them or they weren't honest with their doctors. That doesn't mean that there aren't many others whose lives weren't saved by transitioning, hormones, and surgery and are very happy.

Nobody is ever forced to do this, especially surgery and there are many safeguards built into the system to prevent this from happening, but they have to be honest with themselves and their Drs. Most Drs try to either weed these people out of the system with a year of therapy and psychological testing or make sure that other problems are addressed before they begin hormones because of the emotional effects of the hormones that can mask other problems.

"I didn't think any change was going to be enough in the end and I thought it was better to work on changing how I felt about myself, than changing my body," says Ruby.

She needed to be more open with the psychologists and doctors during the process. Unless she brought these concerns up during the process her therapists cannot help her address them and possibly understand that this was a poor decision for her because they cannot read her mind.

New hope for people obsessed with amputating one of their own limbs

One of the strangest conditions we psychologists come across causes people to want to maim themselves. Known as body identity integrity disorder (BIID) or xenomelia, it usually involves a desire to amputate a healthy limb. More rarely it can manifest as a desire to be paraplegic or blind. In all cases, sufferers feel their body is not complete in its current state. They exhibit no other psychiatric condition.

Sufferers [from BIID] tend to keep their desire secret for fear of being judged, which is an added challenge when it comes to diagnosis. They agree it is strange and irrational, and in many cases even their partners are unaware. They are plagued by the feeling that their body is not how it should be, suffering overwhelming distress in the process.

Why are you unable to spell it out like an adult?
You Can't Make This Stuff Up"

Why would you have a problem with what I said about religious belief? I am quite serious and I meant every word that I said. Theistic religious belief is utterly insane.

They will never get better until they are willing to discuss it with a Dr or a therapist. There is nothing shameful about admitting that you have a problem. I tried to hide my depression and anxiety for years and even tell myself that it was normal.

And sometimes not then. I hope you're doing better. :)

How does BIID possibly apply to transgendered people?

Is this like the fallacious arguments of people who opposed LGBT marriage saying that if we decided that LGBT marriage was a protected right then some wackadoodle would try to marry a tree, a farm tractor or livestock, so it is better to deny a minority their rights then to admit that their slippery slope fallacies are laughable reason for discrimination based on their religious bigotry or ignorance.

I feel like I lose a few neurons every time I have to addess one of your nonsense claims.

I'll keep the rest of my sarcasm to myself because it is likely bannable.

The cause [of MSBP] is unknown.[2] The primary motive may be to gain attention.[4] Risk factors include pregnancy related complications, and a mother who was abused as a child or has factitious disorder imposed on self.[3] Diagnosis is supported when removing the child from the caregiver results in improvement of symptoms or video surveillance without the knowledge of the caregiver finds concerns.[4] Those affected have been subjected to a form of physical abuse and medical neglect.[1]

Well, we have lots of neurons. :)

About 8 years ago I found out I have a nasty form of PTSD because of some nonsense that I experienced in childhood. I am up at night because the insomnia is very resistant to treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that, but night has its beauty. :)

Dismissed for lack of relevance to the thread topic.

Starfire = Adorable

This reminds of a guy who started a Facebook page because he wanted his sister to name her first kid Optimus Prime.

She said she'd do it if he could get a million likes for the idea.

He got 2 million likes - naturally! - but she then welched on the agreement.

Your reference to Optimus Prime has triggered me.
