I caught Rep McCaul's face time with Danna Bash this morning and the man spoke from his heart and soul about the situation in Texas. He thanked Biden for basically stepping up and also recognized how climate change is directing affecting Texas. Also, he reported that part of Biden's emergency relief for Texas will help to pay people's outrageous electric bill.

Speaking on CNN's "State of the Union," Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) thanked President Biden for approving an emergency disaster declaration for the state, and pointed to that declaration when asked by host Dana Bash about reports of Texans facing massive utility bills following days of blackouts and water outages across Texas.

The Republican also agreed with Bash that the storm was an eye-opening example as to how man-made climate change could seriously affect Texas, adding that he has called for a "Manhattan-style project" focusing on technology addressing climate change.

Elected officials in Texas need to address the "wholesale" utility plans and how it can drastically affect the consumer. Disaster aid should not go to the utilities to pay for consumers bills. Some of the reported bills is highway robbery.

Helping States and the Nation harden its energy grid should be high on politicians list.

What should happen to many people in Texas whose electric bills have run into $1000s because of that killer winter storm? How are many people to survive that financial hit? If some of those people aren't homeless yet, they will be.

So, once again, with a history of Texas ridiculing other states that deal with state taxes and constantly promoting the idea of secession when it wishes to throw a political tantrum, Texas puts its hand out for a socialist handout.

Explain to me how the cost to produce electricity when up as high as it did? The utilities played the old supply/demand excuse to raise rates.
- The consumer has some responsibility in they signed up for the "wholesale" plan
- Utilities should be paid a reasonable amount. I am not saying the consumer gets a free ride.

They can start with getting their oft seen handout from government.

Then they can use the power of the vote to insist that Texas pull its head out of its ass so that it can stop being America's champion state of ignorant hypocrisy.

- "We don't do taxes because we are true capitalists and champions of independence!!"

- "Our feelings are hurt so we should secede!!"

How many times in recent memory has Texas begged for a handout from government because it is not prepared for disaster?

Not hearing about secession lately?

All true. However, in a time of emergency, we can't turn our backs on those in trouble.

I know it and get it. Texans can be pieces of shits and deserve to be slapped when required, but I'm only coming from a point of compassion for mankind during a deadly emergency. After this smoke clears, then lets hold their smelly feet to the fire.

Give the morons time.

Remember that Texas Governor who declared that Obama was invading Texas in 2015 because the Active Duty has bases within and conduct training exercises? He deployed the National Guard! <---That was a joke all by itself. He was re-elected in 2018 and is running again in 2022.

There's no wonder why so many conservatives are so entirely stupid anymore. This is the garbage they look to for guidance.

Uh. What?

Why is Texas depending on CentGov $$$$$$$$$$???

I wonder how many of the people who will seek aid for high utility bills support debt relief for students?

All true. However, in a time of emergency, we can't turn our backs on those in trouble.
Are you giving the utility companies a free pass for price gouging during an emergency?

I say pay them at the rate the "fixed rate" users were paying during the emergency.

Let me see if I understand this correctly:

There was a conscious decision by Texans "risk takers" at every level (including consumers) to get cheaper energy at the cost of paying higher price during unforeseen situations and now I will have to pay them to bail them out.

Is this correct?

Is this correct?
Yes. The idea behind Texas energy policy was that a deregulated market didn't require any oversight to protect the system from crisis, because profit-maximizing utilities would build in robust excess capacity to take advantage of possible price spikes.

But they didn't. They didn't spend money now to avoid possible catastrophe later. Let's see, what does that remind me of...

And consumers didn't just freeze in the dark; many are now facing catastrophic bills due to the price spikes--the free market in action!

So it's now looking as if this will be a three-phase crisis:
1. No power or heat
2. No clean water, or maybe no water at al.
3. A wave of bankruptcies.

It's one hell of a lesson — but the people running Texas won't learn it because they bought into a big lie: it's all the fault of renewable energy.

Uh. What?

Why is Texas depending on CentGov $$$$$$$$$$???

Because despite their false rhetoric about "the left," Republicans have long proven to be the purveyors of socialism. Recent event shave only denied them their lie:

- 2007 bailout to mismanaged banks and corporations? 2020 bailout to mismanaged banks and corporations? So much for Republicans championing capitalism. The truism that "socialism is for the wealthy and capitalism is for the rest" is alive and well among the GOP.

- "Free" welfare and unemployment checks in 2020? So much for Republicans championing the idea that one must "pull up their boot straps." They argue that this is different because people are in need. This makes no sense since people, who received welfare and unemployment before the pandemic, were also in need.

And since Americans pay taxes, whereas billion-dollar corporations no longer pay taxes thanks to the GOP's 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act, government assistance is hardly "free." It's their money that is being returned to them in their time of need; and their money that goes to those who no longer pay taxes in their time of need.

See? There is socialism and fascism wrapped all up inside the GOP. They just apply it upwards and last year placated to the worthless for their vote in November. From here the average conservatives loathes a Democrat... cuz "socialism." Morons.

They chose to take the cheap way out and now that their bills will be going up they want us to help pay them
I don't see them helping me pay my elect. bill when it goes up in the winter
Have a nice day

Are you giving the utility companies a free pass for price gouging during an emergency?
Nope. Utility companies there need to eat as much of this as possible, but I haven't heard of anything to force that to happen.

I say pay them at the rate the "fixed rate" users were paying during the emergency.
Doable. I say pay the rate that they had during Jan. Then there's tremendous cost of repairs for pipes and water damage inside their homes/aprts if they didn't have home/aprt insurances. There's furniture used for fire. There's ruined clothing. Loss of food.

I’m curious, does current law even allow FEMA to pay utility bills? It’s my understanding that it does not.

This seems like nothing more than passing our tax dollars to the utility companies.

For the wealthy utility owners.

I tend to agree.

Sadly, yes.
