...I thought I was in George Orwell's Ministry of Truth for a moment, watching them methodically rewrite or 'correct' the past in order to make it more truthfull in relation to the present.
"Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."
Somebody needs to inform these idiots that 1984 was not supposed to be an instruction manual.
Fails to note the difference between legitimate government action as opposed to mob vandalism.
Much like where Georgia removed the "Stars and Bars" from it's State Flag, while Mississippi still refuses to do so; or when some towns and cities remove religious symbols from local government buildings while other's do not.
Thoughts and prayers for the defaced memorials to the traitors.
Right, right, people who literally shot at the Flag of the United States of America were heroes. :lamoHmm...there is a thin line between "traitors" and "heroes;" typically determined by the victors. :coffeepap:

Well...to someone living in London in 1778, hearing that Washington was leading attacks against British subjects by "shooting at the flag" would hardly have been seen as heroic.
Stay on topic. We're talking about whether a separatist movement which formed to defend slavery is in any way morally justifiable.
You were the one who shifted the topic to "traitors"....or don't you remember your own post?

Texas officials unanimously voted on Friday to remove a Confederate plaque from the state Capitol that claims slavery was not the root cause of the Civil War.
The Preservation Board, which is in charge of historical monuments at the Capitol, voted to take down the “Children of the Confederacy Creed,” The Dallas Morning News reported.

This plaque, has been on display in the Capitol since 1959, pledges "to study and teach the truths of history (one of the most important of which is, that the War between the States was not a rebellion, nor was its underlying cause to sustain slavery)."

It’s the plaque that was more akin to the Ministry of Truth
From the Texas Declaration of Causes, 2 February 1861
“...She was received as a commonwealth holding, maintaining and protecting the institution known as negro slavery--the servitude of the African to the white race within her limits--a relation that had existed from the first settlement of her wilderness by the white race, and which her people intended should exist in all future time. ....”
In short, the only causes Texas listed were that the Northern states were trying to abolish slavery (which takes up the majority of the declaration), and the complaint that the Federal government “has for years almost entirely failed to protect the lives and property of the people of Texas against the Indian savages on our border, and more recently against the murderous forays of banditti from the neighboring territory of Mexico.”
The claiming the war wasn’t about slavery when that was the main cause Texas claimed as its reason is the twisting of history.
