Terrorism is getting on a plane with a person of middle eastern descent after 9/11 and even though no matter how tolerant that you may feel that you are, when that arabic person sitting next to you gets up to go to the bathroom, you're still going to clutch onto those arm rests of yours just a little bit tighter and butterfly's will begin to swarm within the pit of your stomach. And that my friends is exactly what the Bin Ladin's and Al-Zarqawis of the world want. Their goal was not to bring down the twin towers on that fateful day but was in fact to force us to look at our neighbors with suspicion, fear and contempt . . . and in that goal it sadly seems they have succeeded. Terrorism is not feeling safe walking down the streets of a foriegn land for fear of being abducted by thieves in the night who have demented aspirations of sawing the head off of the first westerner unfortunate enough to cross their paths. Terrorism is sitting down to lunch, during a beautiful sunny day, at an outdoor Israeli cafe when all of a sudden you hear the blood curdling scream of Allah Ahkbar, then a loud explosion, followed by eternal silence. Terrorism is teaching childrent to hate before they can read, and teaching them how to destroy rather than how to create. Terrorism is the culmination of everything that's wrong and sick in this world, it is the embodiment of all things that are ugly, vile, and evil which we have chosen to ignore until one day we can't ignore it any longer, because it's at our front doorsteps with eyes blazing, wielding an A.K. 47, clutching a butchers knife in its teeth, with a decapitated head in one hand and a Koran in the other. Terrorism is the White House reduced to rubble and the American flag on fire; it is the death of countless innocents sent via satellite dish into every home in the nation. Terrorism is when murderers are awarded the noble peace prize while heroic and righteous men are portrayed as war criminals. Terrorism is showing fear and cowardice in the face of a determined enemy. Terrorism is making back alley deals with evil regimes in order to make a few rich men just a little bit richer and to line the pockets of despots and tyrants while millions of people slowly starve to death. Terrorism is the need of the few outweighing the need of the many. Terrorism is the deaths head, the swashticka, crystal noch and the entifada all rolled into one. Terrorism is a mushroom cloud over the New York skyline. Terrorism is the third world war and the end of our way of life, it is freedom replaced by fear, liberty replaced by lies, and justice replaced by Jihad. Terrrorism is the death of the American dream, it is the age of reason come to a screeching halt and thrown into full reverse. Terrorism is hopelessness incarnate, it is a plague, a cancer on the world and like any other cancer it must be cut out by the roots. To replace hopelessness with hope, ignorance with understanding, and the fear of the unknown with the knowledge of a better tomorrow . . . and in that goal my friends it joyously seems we are suceeding. God bless America and long live a free Iraq.

actually, according to the oxford dictionary terrorism is...

"The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons."

but seriously, wtf was all that about? Sure terrorism is "bad" to sum up your entire poem or whatever you want to call it, but guess what? The war on terrorism isnt going anywhere, you cant defeat a noun.

It was really not intended to be a debatable post and I don't actually recall were I mentioned the war on terror in particular save for the long live a free Iraq statement, however, let me comment on the, "you can't defeat a noun," statement that you made. You're absolutely right one must identify the enemy if one is to defeat said enemy. So I'll spell it out for you right here and now who the enemy in the war on terror is so that there won't be any more confusion for dense liberals. The enemy is . . . are you sitting down? The enemy is pan-Islamic fascism based on the tennants of wuhhabism the enemy is not so much a single country or a nation but rather an ideology based on the fannatical teachings of religious clerics. This is not to say that nation states which support terrorism are not going to be targets in this war against terror and to the contrary they are the main targets. And to say that you cannot defeat an ideology is simply wrong we defeated fascism, we defeated communism and you damn sure better believe we're going to defeat radical Islam.

You are kidding right? We did not defeat communism and we did not defeat fascism. They both are alive and kicking in the world today. China, Cuba, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia, Laus, all communist. And as for Fascism, virtually every third world country in the world has a facist/ extremely corrupt government. South america and africa are full of fascist and totalitarian governments. How can you defeat radical Islam??? You cant. You can never defeat and ideology. The only way to do what you're saying is to kill every muslim in the world and that isnt going to happen and if it did, who would be the terrorists then?

the only way to stop an ideology is to give people an alternative to that ideology. Now tell me, how are we giving an alternative.

There's not really anything to debate here... just an opinion. As such this is the only reasonable response...

Your rhetoric is so filled with hate and maliciousness that I have no other feelings other than pity for you. You've taken extremists views and have held on to them tightly. I'm sorry that you have come to feel the way you do. It's sad.

P.S. My God doesn't bless man made governments. My God doesn't choose sides between nations or peoples of the world. Rather, my God only blesses those who are faithful and walk thru life as someone deserving of it.

Umm... in all those states listed previously, they ALL have a democratic constitution. They tend to be quite vague, as there is no set standard for a "democracy," so while they're a democracy on paper, they're (insert non-democratic for of government here) in practice. You're exactly backwards in your thinking.

"You should look into what totalitarian actually means" Why don't you inform me? Let's see just how ignorant in your thinking you are. I challenge you... tell me what it is. Keep in mind that household dictionaries don't count as a credible source. You'll get laughed at if you post one of those.

Totalitarian is total dominance over the world by one form of government hence the "total" in totalitarian. I'm not exactly sure when the term was first coined but I do know that it was probably around the time of WW1 and WW2 when Trosky was in exile in I believe Mexico he called for a global socialist revolution hence a totalitarian gov't fascism and communism (escpecially stalinistic communism) can both be considered totalitarian because they believe in expansionism and global supremacy of one gov't.

i don't understand how you can fight terrorism as an ideology when terrorism itself is backed by thousands of ideologies. Terrorists in ireland are backed by Christian ideologies... terrorists in South America are backed by political ideologies. Terrorists in the Mid east are backed by Extreme Islamic ideologies....In Iraq, one can argue that the terrorists are backed by an anti-US ideology. And such ideologies keep popping up.

As I said before, terrorism is simply a tactic. It is used by a group to further their own means. We cannot fight a war against a tactic. Fighting a "War on terror" is exactly like saying we are fighting a "war on guerilla warfare". Again, not possible.

Totalitarianism is the total dominance of one gov't over the entire world hence the prefic total in totalitarianism, and before you go off on some leftist rant about how that would describe the U.S. let me add that the aforementioned definition would, also, include not giving the weaker nations the right to self determination.

As for this statement it's way out of left field this time since I didn't list any countries by name save for Russi so that does away with the ALL statement and secondly I didn't claim that the South East Asian countries were democratic rather I stated that allthough they are communist they are very much enjoy the fruits of capitalism so they are instead of the usual theory of the natural evolution of a country to change from capitalism to communism the exact opposite is indeed the case.

We defeated Hitler, and the USSR disbanded (Russia was only a fraction of it btw) those are two isolated states, not the basis for entire political systems. South Asian countries technically communist? Totally communist. The only country out of those that is remotely capitalist is china and that is only in large internal markets. You said we defeated fascism and communism, you were obviously wrong, so dont try and justify it by whining about how we defeated a country that happened to be fascist or how a nation disbanded that happened to be communist (note disbanded as in "we didnt soley defeat them, they were plagued by internal strife"). Ummm and what are you trying to say about totalitarian governments, you arent making any sense. Words mean things? What a clever observation, you have truly proven your intelligence.

Its like the war on crime... a very bold and stupid idea.

Anyways the bush administration is finally realizin that something idealistic and stupid like "war on terror" just doesn't cut it. Now its war on global extremism or something. Atleast its headed in the right direction. They've better specified the ideology they are hunting down now.

Ya I suggest you look into Vietnam, because they also have capitalist institutions, (take a look at the link below) probably the only purely communist countries now are Korea and Cuba, however, these countries are poor and their people are starving, in Korea they have even begun to resort to cannabilism. China is moving towards a more capitalist and open society and if it wasn't for the Tiananmen massacre they probably would already have converted to democracy just like in Russian, if it was not for the fact that they adobted capitalist institutions and opened up their market to the west, namely the U.S., their entire economy would have probably collapsed already just like that of the U.S.S.R. Communism is a failed experiment it's been proven through the test of history.

The USSR was Stalinist. Communism hasn't existed yet.

Also there are around 10-15 million communists globally.

Russia is a very, very corrupt, impovershed capitalist republic. And capitalism does not mean democracy.

Ok, ok "War On Terrorism" may be an incorrect phrase or not correctly or specifically descriptive enough to express our aims but we know what this war, starting in Afghanistan, is intended to fight; specifically Islamic Fundamentalist or Extremist groups who use Terror tactics to affect their desired results, and, State sponsors of these particular groups. I believe that this has been quite clear since sept 11th but perhaps the white house could've devised a more descriptive name.

Are you all honestly saying that this was not your understanding of this war?

What? "War on terrorism" I think it should be called "War on civilians". We've produced many times more potential terrorists by invading, than ever before. Now, because of our un-wanted intruision, children see "Whabbism" as the only true religion in order to retalite. It is indoctrinating thoudsands of potential terrorists. I think UBL would be happy that W started this war, it's a great recruiting tool!
