Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims

By LAURA CLARK - More by this author » Last updated at 11:58am on 2nd April 2007

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.
It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

Teachers drop the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims | the Daily Mail

Oh Londoninstan what will you do next?

What did the Muslims have to do with the Holocaust?? I don't know why they would be offended that Jews were slaughtered during WWII

Holocaust denial is huge in the ME, either they don't believe it happened or they want another one.

I didn't know it was rampant. I know that knob-job in Iran believes it didn't happen, but I wasn't aware that it was a widely held belief. I guess it must be if it warrants not teaching, due to the possibility of offending them.

I just thought that was weird. To me it was like saying a Buddhist would be offended by our treatment of native Americans, and we shouldn't teach that in our history.

Don't the Muslims understand that it was the holocaust that led to the establishment of Israel( by the UN no less), and that if there is anyone to blame for an Israeli state being created, it would be Germany????

I guess the best part of this is that it seems to be, as of now, isolated to some teachers and not the whole. Though the entire thing is rather ridiculous. You can't remake the past, it is as it is. The only thing you can hope to do is learn from it, and you can't do that by ignoring it.

In many Muslim cultures, I'm sure this is a widely held belief and people just believe it without question. The unfortunate thing is that people are easily led to believe something if they hear it enough times. People don't question things enough or do the research on their own as it is far easier to just believe it. It's kind of a human characteristic to automatically want to take the easy way out.

Yeah, I suppose that is true. The proof of the Holocaust is immense, there is no question that it happened. There are records, and pictures, and all sorts of documentation. It was a horrible example of humanity's dark side and something we shouldn't shove under the carpet because some people may be offended. Perchance they should be offended because their prejudice isn't founded in anything real other than reinforcements through the state to try to make people think a particular way. Perchance the offense they innately feel is merely their conscious telling them that believing the Holocaust didn't happen is wrong.

Or in many cases, both at the same time. This kind of Orwellian doublethink is rampant throughout the region. They believe that the Holocaust didn't happen, yet Hitler was a great man for causing the Holocaust. The fact that it doesn't make sense doesn't matter to them.

I think it's just another example of the sorts of tyranny and brainwashing a theocracy is capable of.

Well, for people to not believe something like the Holocaust is completely foolish. It is based on pure ignorance. There is really no excuse for these teachers to cater to ignorance as if it is a valid choice.

British imams continue to preach while British teachers decline to teach.

What it happening to the UK? Do you not recognize the dangerous paths you traverse?

Dear lord

yeah, let's 'rewrite' history so as not to chance offending people who don't like history.

Fricken ridiculous. The UK schools should be ashamed.

Actually the Muslims had a huge roll in the Holocaust, ever hear of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem? During the WW2 era Persia changed there name to Iran litterally translated means "land of the Aryans," and it was common to see placks reading: "In heaven Allah is your master, on earth it is Adolf Hitler."

I wasn't aware of that, I remember vaugely some kind of ties with Persia, but I never really looked into it...

Im willing to bet here that there's alot less to this story than is said by the Daily Mail, a notorious right wing rag.

Did any of these supposed schools come out and say what they were doing and why?

It seems perfectly reasonably to me to expect that once you have avoided
critical thinking long enough to believe the fairy stories preached by most
religions you are open to accepting almost anything.

My favorite part :

"But the same department deliberately avoided teaching the Crusades at Key Stage 3 (11- to 14-year-olds) because their balanced treatment of the topic would have challenged what was taught in some local mosques."

It is in times like this that those who say that Europe isn't being overtaken by radical Islam shine. I can't wait till the Union Jack replaces the blue with green.

What these blind Eurabian dhimmis don't realize is that in the future there will be no European history taught in Europe at all. The history of Europe will be portrayed as an Islamic history, and completey revised so as to provide no hint that anything other than Islam ever prevailed.

It's not just Muslims

From the article
A third school found itself 'strongly challenged by some Christian parents for their treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict-and the history of the state of Israel that did not accord with the teachings of their denomination'.

It doesn't matter who it is they're "afraid of offending". They need to teach history and be done with it. Those who get offended over historical facts can just deal with it and go back to their churches/mosques of ignorance and fantasy.

When religion trumps critical thinking....the species will be dying, and deservedly so.

I thought Europe was very secular, and religious idealologies would not hold sway over their governments. Guess not......

You employ the same tactics as countless extreme right wingers who simply label anything "left" or "liberal" as away to dismiss it and not comment on actual content.

Here is another news source on the subject. I did notice how they scrubbed it up to try to sanitize it, so they must be more p.c. in attitude.

I just feel bad for these kids that because of some idiot parents will be ignorant in the way of the world. Without a past they have no chance at a future.

This is a complete failure of the educational system. Give these teachers an ultimatum to start teaching HISTORY or be fired. History is not nice and it will probably offend people to learn that their ancestors were a bunch of jerks. Some of my ancestors were genocidal, land grabbing maniacs who led the western expansion in the United States. Despite that, I would like to ensure that their actions are taught in history, so we can ensure that things like that don't happen again.

Something along the lines of "Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it," comes to mind
