The Overtime rule where if you score a TD on your first drive is bullshit. No more so obvious than the Buffalo/KC game right now. The idea that one team going and scoring and the other team not getting a chance to at least have the ball is utter horseshit. There might not be a more stupid rule in all of sports.

Why??/ If a team does not like the rule then they need to play better ball, without a tie at regulation. No excuses.

Haven't been following, and not even aware of the rule, but it sounds terrible! Many completive sports allow some for of "catch-up" opportunity.

Ridiculous statement and clearly a lack of football understanding.

Baseball does it... they give both teams one inning to do what they can. Same with Soccer and Rugby. Same with tennis. Imagine a tie breaker where Serena wins a coin toss and if she wins the first point she wins the whole thing. They only do that AFTER a whole overtime period. Same in hockey. Both hockey and soccer have an overtime and then a shootout. Football is the only sport that does something like this and it is retarded.

Play better? It was an amazing game. Particularly the last four minutes.

Is this about 'sudden death'? First overtime score wins?
If so, it sounds reasonable, except maybe where posesion of the ball is so critical.
But everyone on the field (nearly) has a shot at getting the ball. So there's that...

It is decided by a coin toss... it is ridiculous.

It used to be simply sudden death…but that became almost too easy, hence the rule about a TD not just a field goal.

It’s a pretty fair rule. Stop them from scoring a TD and you get a chance at the ball.

It is a coin toss and any good quarterback can run a two minute drill offense and score a touch down on the opening drive.

They get a TD and the other team should get a chance to score to keep the game going... like almost every other sport.

There is no rhyme or reason to it and many teams have tried to get the rule changed but each time the NFL denied it for no reason

To bad best two teams are on the AFC side. Glad to see Brady sent packing.

Before the rule change, OTs were 15 minutes ( except for playoff games, for obvious reasons ) and if the score was still tied after the 'extra i5 minute quarter', game ended in a tie. The new rule cut the OT to 10 minutes. If the receiving team doesn't score, or only scores a FG, the other team gets a shot with the ball. If the receiving team scores a TD on the first possession, it's game over. The new rule was put into effect 'primarily' to shorten the OT, because the league decided in OTs, players are exhausted, and more likely to get injured. Most fans prefer the old rule, including myself, but like with so many other things these days, with the crazy amounts of money these guys make, the owners leaned on the Commissioner for the new rule.

At first I thought @TurtleDude had won an award for his Tennis Djokovic posts.

Maybe stop the Chiefs from scoring in 13 seconds?

College does give the ball to both teams.
Illinois high schools have a good OT rule.
Both teams start at the ten yard line.

Can you imagine the injuries, especially concussions, if today's players had to use the same uniforms/gear the NFL used in the 50s and 60s?

Today’s players are bigger, faster, and stronger. Dick Butkus is quoted as saying he might have killed another player back then with today’s development of players.

Those guys just toughed it out. You’d be replaced toot sweet if you didn’t. There were no women reporters in men’s locker rooms then, let alone officiating as we have now.

It's a bad rule, period. It smacks of being unfair.

What a great game! Best game ever!

Well the Bills D sort of sucked, so that might have been an issue instead of the overtime rules.

Apparently the Bills had the best Defense in the NFL.

The rules suck.
