Surprise! Walmart health plan is cheaper, offers more coverage than Obamacare (1 Viewer)

Re: Walmart has better insurance than obamacare

The average wage for walmart is 10-12 dollars an hour. which is 22-25k a year.
There are some that might make less i am sure but everything that i have seen state they pay 10-12.

It is easy to qualify for benefits if you are making 9-11 and have 2 kids and are not married, but those things are to include household income. IE everyone living there. So if a single mom has a boy friend living with her then his income is suppose to be included as well.

Wal-Mart's Simon: Almost Half of Wal-Mart Store Associates Made More Than $25,000

Avg pay for an associate at Walmart is $8.85 per hour, or a salary of $17,841. Walmart's CEO claims that 475,000 store associates earned more than $25,000 last year. With 1.3 million associates, that means that 825,000 earn less than $25K

Re: Walmart has better insurance than obamacare

Perhaps you should question what you are reading. The fact is, Unions, and the liberal/progressive media and minions need to work a bit harder to try and spread lies, because the facts are out there for those who want the truth. ThinkProgress, Huffington Post, the AFL-CIO, and all the rest pushing the meme are only making themselves look foolish.

Actually I had just read an article on the Fortune magazine site, which questioned your claim about Walmart wages. Was that site too liberal for ya?

So again - where did you get your so-called "information" on Walmart wages?

Your 'guesstimated' income level is contingent upon a 40 hr work week, many Walmart employees work less than 30 hours/week.

And as i have pointed out before this has nothing to do with the topic at hand. it is just a red herring. Walmart still overs better insurance and coverage for healthcare than obamacare does.

One small problem with the statement about Walmart health insurance plans being "better" than those offered under the ACA - less than 50% of Walmart employees work enough hours to be eligible for the insurance plan. The company has stated that it will only offer insurance to those who have worked for a minimum 6 months. Many stores are only hiring "temporary" workers - 180 day contracts. Exclusive - Wal-Mart's everyday hiring strategy: Add more temps | Reuters
Wal-Mart Stores Inc has in recent months been only hiring temporary workers at many of its U.S. stores, the first time the world's largest retailer has done so outside of the holiday shopping season.

A Reuters survey of 52 stores run by the largest U.S. private employer in the past month, including one in every U.S. state, showed that 27 were hiring only temps, 20 were hiring a combination of regular full, part-time and temp jobs, and five were not hiring at all. The survey was based on interviews with managers, sales staff and human resource department employees at the stores.

No, it doesn't

The exchanges offer gold plans which cover far more than Walmart offers.

And I'm still waiting for you to post a link to the report.

Actually, Forbes sucks, but the game of who qualifies as a reasonable source gets a bit tedious doens't it.

The fact is, and it's indisputable, the vast majority of full time workers at Walmart make $25k or more per year.

Now you weren't thinking I was writing about part time workers were you? Do you think part time workers should make more than $25k per year? I'm mean 30 hours a week would equal over $16/hr to get to $25k per year, and that would blow the whole Union backed minimum wage meme out the door.

again a red herring. that still has nothing to do with the fact that they offer better coverages than obamacare.
Gold plans in Chicago with subsidy for a family of 4 is running about 500+ a month.
deductables for the family in the 4k+ range without of pocket maximums at 7k.

I posted the article go read it.

Re: Walmart has better insurance than obamacare

I commend Wal-Mart...but the idea was not to put everyone on "Obamacare" , it was to have coverage unavailable to others.

Question, what percentage of workers does Wal-Mart cover?

With their massive profits they better be covering most of their employees.

About half their employees are enrolled.

As far as their profits, it's not as much as people think.

Wal-Mart Stores Net Income (Quarterly) (WMT)

Re: Walmart has better insurance than obamacare

Where do you get that information? It sure don't agree with what I am reading.

One might also ask why Walmart employees receive on average a $1000/yr in various federal subsidies - and that is counting ALL employees. Walmart stores across the country are subsidized by federal benefits on average to $400,000+, in Wisconsin the subsidies, including state, average more than $900,000 per store.

You mean like what most under educated working folks are eligible for? Like earn income credit?

Have you looked at which benefits they actually get?

No, you didn't say anything about part time workers!

Good point.

As it is, the vast majority of Walmart employees are paid $25k per year, or more.

So why did you think I did? Do you think part time workers at Walmart should be paid $16/hr? Are they paid that much at Costco?

I pointed out how you did talk about part-time workers, so now you're going to try and change the subject?

You lie. I never mentioned part time workers. Do you think part time workers should be paid $25k/yr, or more, at Walmart?

Of course you didn't. Everyone knows that the people who work part time for Walmart are not "Walmart employees"!

I'm sure Walmart, as well as the part time employees, think otherwise.

why do you think liberals want extended unemployment benefits? 80% of their party is part time:lamo

Re: Walmart has better insurance than obamacare

That is a lot of folks not covered. So where do the low income folk get their health care from?

Most of those either have spouse, parent or no insurance or they're part-time and have to be there for 2 years to qualify.(so I've been led to believe]
