Supreme Court limits EPA in curbing power plant emissions

LOL 75% of our GDP is consumer spending. What is fake about that? Price fixing and propping up antiquated industries with tariffs only weaken the economy in the long run and make America less competitive in world markets.
America is such a large internal market we don’t need to be competitive internationally. And most other countries protect their domestic industries more than we do.

No, 75% of GDP cannot be consumer spending since government spending is included in that measure

The U.S. Constitution really isn't a very long read (about 4,400 words). Some of the proggesive left around here ought to carefully read it through. It probably wouldn't take them much longer to read than Kim Kardashian's twitter feed over the last few days.

You think Americans should pay higher prices for inferior products. That attitude is one of failure like the USSR.

Always love a link to a story not from "The Nation".
Sorry. I don't understand that statement. What does the Nation have to do w anything?

Is it possible that anyone alive today is ignorant of the toll inflicted by climate change on temps, rainfall, warming oceans, dying coral, struggling farmers and fisherman,? More people dying from excess heat every year?

Of course, many farmers around the world are suffering due to climate change.

"As a result of climate change, farmers in Guatemala are struggling with severe draught, followed by torrential rain, which has destroyed crops. Now many look to migrating to the U.S. as their only option to provide for their families. Meagan Fitzgerald reports on climate change and migration and how one crisis contributes to another.Sept. 24, 2021" NBC news
No, they are not. This is propaganda produced to encourage mass migration into America so Democrats have a new generation of voters. Guatemalan agriculture from what numbers I can find shows consistent increases in production every year. So this narrative is a lie. The Democrats want to import a new base of people to produce voters that will be educated in left controlled schools.

You think Americans should pay higher prices for inferior products.
We do that now with most Asian imports
That attitude is one of failure like the USSR.
No, we had a strong industrial economy until we decided to open up “free trade” with foreign countries that undercut our labor costs

Nobody is asking Congress to decide matters of science.

We are Congress to decide matters of national interest.
Providing it's within it's authority.

And shutting down industries is a matter of national interest.
And it's within Congress to decide to do that.
Or decide not to do that.

It's not the authority of the Executive to make that decision.
Yes you are. The scientists at the EPA are not shutting down industries they are helping them survive the future. You want us to burn candles at both ends for your own selfish interests. Don't you know the story of the grasshopper and the ant? Stop being a grasshopper.

The EPA was formed to regulate harmful gases and that is how their charter reads. How does that not include CO2?
Because Co2 is not harmful

Scientists make important decisions for our lives every day. Stop repeating this stupid right-wing talking point.
They shouldn’t without political sanction
Politicians are nearly universally regarded as corrupted by the money/power it takes to get elected and stay there. But here you are telling us that politicians are best to make such decisions?
Or the partisan politics shell game that manufactures electoral support? Surely you jest.
Too bad, if the Congress is corrupt then we will just have to deal with the results of that
It took an army of "unelected bureucrats" to stop Trump from destroying the U.S., some of the best deeds done during his administration was his own people reigning him in from his attempts and destroying the union. Praise the good deeds of those unelected do-gooders....
Partisan nonsense

You are either being lazy or intentionally dishonest.

The problems plaguing Europe's energy sector are well known and documented.

No I wanted to see what you came up with and the context isn't exactly what you are claiming..which I figured.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't totally support what you are claiming.

Putting on blinders so you won't see the rest of the world is a recipe for disaster. Protectionism made the Great Depression deeper and longer.

The American protectionism bill that made the Great Depression worse

PROTECTIONISM. ANYONE ? ANYONE ? BUELLER?

One of the most memorable movie scenes from 1986’s “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” was comedian Ben Stein as the droning high school teacher, trying to teach his bored students the lesson of “Smoot-Hawley,” the tariff bill of 1930. “Anyone? Anyone?” is the line Stein repeats over and over, trying to elicit answers about a disastrous piece of American legislation.

But the real story of that terrible tariff bill is far from boring. It’s actually a fascinating tale of protectionism, politics, piety and patriotism. It’s also a legislative tragedy, a tale of a bill going off the rails, careening off a cliff and helping to sink the world economy.

This ruling opens the door to negating all consumer protection regulation, from meat, pesticides, auto, etc.

No. It will require Congress to be more careful in how it legislates.

Climate freaking changes. CO2 isn't causing it and government can't stop it

It's the stated objective of the Biden Admin.
The EPA is part of the Executive branch.
All legislative powers of the USA belong to Congress.

No. It will require Congress to be more careful in how it legislates.
I think that will fail. We need to dilute the court and return it to sanity. These justices will return us to 1850 if we let them keep ruling.

How is that going to happen with Republicans oppose any/all Democratic legislation out of spite, and certainly oppose a stronger EPA?
The House has been passing all sorts of shit that the Senate can't get past 60 votes, even if their popularity in the mainstream is >60%. Republicans and the way our government is organized, are the issues.

Stating that you should be able to do what you want despite the fact that you can’t get your agenda made into law because you can’t get enough support is rather undemocratic.

Using bureaucrats to push your agenda because you can’t get out made into law is not how our government was designed.

It's not the job of the courts to fix mistakes of Congress-- except to the extent those mistakes are illegal.

Thanks for you completely uneducated opinion. It means so much. Never in the history of the human race have world temperatures increased at these rates. NEVER.

The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and other human activities.4 Most of the warming occurred in the past 40 years, with the seven most recent years being the warmest. The years 2016 and 2020 are tied for the warmest year on record.

Yeah, why would we want the government to have tools to fight climate change. We'll just let the unlivable conditions we are heading towards take care of all the new babies that will be born. SCOTUS joins R's in protecting the unborn, and screwing the born.
The government does have the tools. It’s called congress. The people who are supposed to be writing laws.
Just because you can’t get enough support for your agenda doesn’t mean we don’t have the tools.

It's not the job of the courts to fix mistakes of Congress-- except to the extent those mistakes are illegal.
It is the job of the people to fix the broken Supreme Court. They are a menace to all we hold dear. We will lose all our freedoms at their hands if we let them.

The SC is upending the laws made by Congress. They are making up falsehoods to justify a political agenda. The EPA was authorized by Congress to make rules to protect us from dangerous pollution. The court now says they know better without a shred of evidence. There is only one way to fix this and that is to neuter their partisan votes with more Justices.
