Define "too late." The US would have allowed Japan to take Malaysia, Indonesia. At the time we were allies with the Republic of China, and as a result of the Japanese invasion cut off their supply to US steel and oil. The line in the sand for the US, however, would have been the Philippines. The US had acquired the Philippines in 1900 after winning in the Spanish/American War. We spent the next 40 years fighting a guerilla war in the Philippines. So a Japanese invasion would have most likely prompted the US getting involved. But probably not until that happened. The US was content to allow Japan to invade China with only imposing an embargo. If Imperial Japan hadn't poked the bear at Pearl Harbor, it's possible that the US would not have entered the war until too late.
Would Stalin and Churchill have been able to win the war in Europe without US help? Good question, and it's a matter of speculation at this point.
Anyway, yes, we kicked Imperial Japan's butt, then went home and helped to rebuild a war torn world. It was one of America's best moments.
Stalin would have eventually defeated Germany, but not Churchill. WW II came down to a war of production. Only those nations capable of out producing the other would win. When the Soviets moved all of their factories out of reach of the German bombers, it assured their eventual victory. Churchill was the leader of a nation that had already been defeated, his job was to put a brave face on total failure.
It was in the best interests of the US to have an economically functioning Europe. Unfortunately, most of those nations ended up screwing us over. Particularly France, which considering their history should have been expected.
