STFU It Was a Ride

I have traveled to Normandy but never got the same level of respect as those who went in the forties.

Gayle King is doubling down and suggesting that she is an astronaut and deserves the same recognition as a man who went into outer space. Naturally, she had to play the victim and gender card. This morning, she said that these women aren't getting enough credit, and people don't know what it is like to do what they did. No kidding. Who has that much money to waste?

It was a ride and she was just a passenger.

Hey, I flew on a 747 across the Pacific multiple times, and I never got lost. Why is Amelia Earhart famous and not me? I really don't like that. Bitch should have flown United Business Class and then none of her 'misfortune' woulda happened.

Gayle needs to get over herself. Many other women, real astronauts, have gone to space.

And BTW to be considered an astronaut you have to do something astronaut-ish during the mission. Passengers along for the ride don't count according to FAA rules.

Gayle King, get the memo, take the hint, and take the W before it becomes a huge L.

And STFU.

There's no difference in that way. They werent even selected to work any controls. A dog or chimp could have gone up. They did request access to controls.
Trying to compare these tourists to the first American in space is pretty lame. But I get it, girl power and all.

I'm only pointing out the comparison specific to that mentioned in the OP. If you dont like it, 🤷

And apparently you didnt see my initial post in this thread. Nevermind, it was another thread on the flight.

Women are jealous of men/wanna be them and men are jealous of women/wanna be them...be happy with who you are...

Yeah.

These were rich tourists.

I compare them to the ones that went on the submarine to the Titanic.

Except, thankfully, these ladies came home safely.

Affluenza (and the Age of Idiocy) at its finest. Did you hear what Katy Perry said of the team before they launched?

"We put the ass in astronaut!"

Inspiring.

She should get together with Elon "I put the 'art' in 'fart'" Musk.

(He tweeted that years ago...for some reason, my mind recorded this)

The recent comment by Gayle King about those who suggested they just took a ride while she tried to liken her "ride" to the same thing Alan Shepard did 63 years ago is ridiculous.
Alan Shepard didn't just take a ride in the Mercury spacecraft; he piloted it. He was the first American to fly in space, on his 15 minute flight, and he piloted his Mercury spacecraft, named Freedom 7, on a suborbital flight. He maneuvered the capsule himself, demonstrating manual control.
The Blue Horizon Girls went for a tourist in space ride.
Blue Origin is a spaceflight company founded by Jeff Bezos that focuses on reusable rocket technology and suborbital space tourism. She nor any of the passengers piloted anything. They took an 11 minute ride as space tourists.

A few times I've been seated on the airplane on the row with the emergency exit. The flight attendant would come and train us on our role and responsibilities regarding the emergency exit. Subsequently I don't claim that I was part of the flight crew despite of the fact that maybe I was.

Spam in a can.

I don't recall Gayle making any claims along those lines.

It was historical, as it was apparently the first all female crew, but that's obviously artificial, and Gayle has little to do with that.

So in summation it's nothing really, except a TV stunt by TV personality.

I think the more interesting question is why does it bother some folks so much?

You already ranted about this in the thread about it yesterday.

WTF? It's one thing to not check and post a duplicate thread.
But to post in the previous thread, and then post a new one ?

Yeah, I don't find that troubling, she is just being an arch feminist, and she's not claiming any special knowledge or training.

Right at the end she says she has trouble calling herself an astronaut, which I think sets the right sort of separation between herself and the professionals.

Rich celebrity overstating the importance of some tourist activity they performed.

There's nothing really new here.

Indeed. And besides, who cares?
