Audience members at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra interrupted its concert on Saturday night with a song of their own to protest Michael Brown's death, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.Michael Brown was the unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9 in Ferguson, Mo.
The protestors began singing the civil rights song "Which Side Are You On?" which was described as a "Requiem For Mike Brown" on Saturday following intermission at the Powell Symphony Hall, the Post-Dispatch reported. According to the paper, two members of the audience started singing and were joined by other protestors spread throughout the concert hall.
The protestors unfurled three hand-painted banners, which they reportedly hung from the balcony. The Post-Dispatch noted that one of the banners listed Brown's date of birth and the date he was killed.
Video of the protest showed the orchestra went silent as the singing took place. Afterward, members of the orchestra and chorus applauded, as did some in the audience. According to the paper, the protestors scattered red paper hearts over the balcony before they filed out of the hall, chanting: "Black lives matter."
Oh yes, so beautiful for them to interrupt a paid for symphony where the musicians practiced hard to bring much better music. So so beautiful. Surely there could not have been a better venue for such an auspicious performance such as in front of a police station or a court house or even a park!
/sarcasm
I am so sick of these protestors that won't even wait for the GJ to render their verdict and then if it goes on to a court trial to see the actual evidence. Of course I'm convinced that it won't matter what the verdict is. These clowns will continue to be idiots.
THis is what I find amusing about this whole thing. These people are trying take a martyr out of someone who might be scumbag who assaulted a cop and or attempted to take the cop's life. They are going to look pretty stupid in the eyes of most Americans if the grand jury decides that there is not enough evidence to go to trial or even a court trial finds that the officer was justified. They should wait until the verdict is in.
I understand family and close friends stick up for their loved one. In the history of tv interviews I do not think a scumbag's loved ones ever said "yeah I knew he would do something like this". It's always "I am shocked", or "he never did anything like this".

Beautiful.
I agree. I guess the St. Louis Symphony forgot that this kid picked up a store owner by his throat while he robbed him.
Or they were afraid of expressing a dissenting opinion.
Exactly. What side am I on? The side that wants truth and justice. The defenders of Mike Brown aren't willing to wait for truth or justice, they are calling, ironically, for a lynch mob to exact their brand of justice. The cop is guilty before the facts are known largely because of the color of his skin. How troubling is it that blacks, once the victim of such injustice, are now its advocates."Which Side Are You On?"?
"Black lives matter"?
Well those are definitely words and songs meant to bring people together.

I actually just heard them chanting that 'black lives matter'. I suppose I may have missed the "white lives matter chant". Maybe that was a different video. Was I the only one who heard them also sing that white lives matter too? Justice for us all?
I took it more as a cops vs. us rather them black vs. white or any kind of racist divisive thing.
Maybe not an appropriate place for the protesters but I really don't see a racist thing about it.
I did enjoy some of the crowds reaction - which ranged from smiling applause to a get that camera out of my face before I smash it side eye.

I didn't hear them sing that white lives matter. At what point in the video did they sing those words? The first time I heard "black lives matter" uttered was at the end of the video when you could hear the chanting (not singing) from the balcony, then the people who were in the video in seats in the audience joined in saying "black lives matter", including the young couple who was sitting very close to the person filming. I didn't hear them say "white lives matter" and then right after that, it appears the people in the balcony were leaving the theater and I saw the people in the seats begin to file out as well.
Not saying they didn't say it, but I can't hear it anywhere. I don't recall the words "black lives matter" being sung during the song itself.
I think you're right, I thought I heard it at 1:32 and 1:46 but I think it was the clapping while they were saying it that made it seem like they said white but after listening to those two parts slowly again, it does appear they say black and not white. I guess I was the only one who did hear it because I was the only one who heard it that way.
So I will take that back and instead of having to repeat that ten times after ten people I will boldly highlight my error.
I WAS WRONG
But don't be surprised if half a dozen people don't read your post before correcting you.
That frustrates me. When people don't bother to read the thread before commenting? I've actually inserted the word "blue" randomly in posts before, and called people on it, because they come in and comment on my post without even bothering to read it. When I asked them what was out of place in my post, they had no idea. But when you grill them on, "Did you actually read my post?" they'd be like... "Er... YES," and act all offended.
