Spicer: Trump's border wall to be paid for with 20 percent import tax

The crap Mexico exports to the US is already overpriced. This is meant to be a negotiation not a threat.

Trump wants to pay for his proposed southern border wall by slapping a 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico.Wonder if that 20% tax includes the automobile's made in Mexico?Watch the video at the link:2wave:

Trumps' most recent brain fart regarding a 20% tax is just another indication that Trump may be exhibiting signs of senile dementia. Such pure dumbassery would cause massive problems for the very people who voted for der Trumper. It would cost Americans dearly. I recommend that people who voted for Trump pick up the tab.

It's like trying to untangle a box of coat hangers. So many things are connected in so many ways that the unintended consequences would be a nightmare. More than 6 million American jobs depend on trade with Mexico. The economies of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California would go into a death spiral if such an idiotic thing happened. Does Trump understand that? No. Not unless it is discussed on FoxNews.

P.S. Mexico knows full well that Trump cannot do anything so stupid without destroying his own country.

You're poking in the dark, and the Trump administration is making it up as they go along.
Both are failing strategies.

To which Mexico will just remind Trump that he doesn't have the authority to impose such a tax and they'll hedge their bets with our Congress.

What threat? "If you don't pay for a ****ing wall that you don't want and that we know won't have the desired effect we promise to trash our own economy and then you'll be sorry." That's brilliant.

Minor correction - Trump doesn't understand Fox News. Even they are too reality based for The Yellow Ego.

Really? OK. What is overpriced and by how much?

Please be very specific.

Mostly the crappy furniture and craft items that are so popular. I had a customer who dealt in Mexican home decor.

Commerce between the two countries will not suffer after Mexico comes to it's senses.

Hide and watch.. you leftists are making something out of nothing...as usual.

That's how business works.

That's how business works.

So US government increases taxes on items and cons say "The businesses will just pass along that increase to it's consumers" so that's bad. Trump says he will increase tariffs 20% on Mexican made items, which in turn Mexico will just increase that along to the US consumer and that's good to you?

So basically the US consumer will be paying to build the wall, not Mexico. Brilliant plan, how does Mexico pay for the wall again?

So every car made in Mexico but sold in America is suddenly going to be 20% more expensive?

As of 2015, these are most/all the cars/light duty trucks made in Mexico but sold in America:

Which Cars Are Made In Mexico? » AutoGuide.com News

Now many of you are probably thinking - 'fine, I will just not buy these vehicles'.
But, not so fast...since many of these cars/trucks will be going up 20%, are you actually naive enough to think that other vehicles in the same class will not be raised in price (even if they are not subject to the tax)? Of course they will be. They can all be raised a few percentage points without anyone knowing and still have a big edge over the vehicles that are taxed.
Or do you think those that run the auto companies are going to be sweet and nice and not try and take advantage of this opportunity?

What did I tell you all...all these tariffs/import taxes will do is raise the cost of living for Americans.

And in this case, what benefit do Americans get for all that extra money? A giant wall that might keep illegals out.

Great...now Americans will be forced to do those jobs that they did not want to do. And since those jobs that now are being paid for less than minimum wage - they will now be paid at MW...which will raise the price of those things as well.

When will Americans realize - large tariffs/import taxes hurt EVERYONE but the rich.

Wait... so they're 'so popular' but they're overpriced? Really?

That's not a business model. It's a negotiating technique.

Over the years I've seen some rather unique negotiating techniques. Threats aren't all that common to my experience. I never respond to them. What I have never seen is a guy threaten to destroy himself and his business if I don't do things his way. That isn't negotiating, that is idiocy. That's your man Trump.

And how that working out for him with Mexico?

Trump's "red line" isn't going to intimidate anyone, my friend.
