Is anyone watching the Pres address to Congress?

I can't believe some CRETIN yelled "LIE" at Obama during his speech to joint congress tonight!

Can you IMAGINE the outcry if a Dem had done that to Bush?????

I don't think ANY Congress member has ever done that during a Presidential address before. :wow:

What was he saying when the "lie" comment got yelled out?

It doesn't really matter...his lips were moving.

That the proposed health reform would not allow coverage of illegal aliens, it was during a section where Pres Obama was addressing the misinformation being circulated about the proposed reforms.

I remember him addressing death panels, abortion coverage, and illegal alien coverage.

You're right in one part, it doesn't matter what Obama was saying. The disrespect was atrocious - GOPers are going too far.

I would like to know who that was. I want to see if he has another term ;)

I'd vote him out.

I think it is kinda improper for the setting, but it's hardly illegal or really wrong. It's disappointing, but probably not worth making a big deal over.

Me too, Scott !

btw, the camera focused on Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham? (I think it was him) and Olympia Snowe during that section - they all stood and clapped Obama's words.

SOME GOPers don't want to be associated with garbage.

It's definitely wrong.
I hope a huge deal is made over it.

it was rude to yell that out but so is lying. ;)

?!

They called him a liar all the time, in numerous public forums (and still do). They just never had the balls to say it to his face.

Personally, I could care less if any politician is called a liar...they lie all the time. No big secret there.

NO Democrat yelled out and called Bush a liar during an address to a joint session of congress.

And not for lack of balls .... more like an abundance of manners.

Classless GOP, count on them for garbage, eh?

btw, the cretin's name is Joe Wilson of South Carolina.

You really think they were polite to Bush? I don't.

They're all sleazy these days.

So is it all GOPers or just one? Be careful how you answer this. ;)

I think they maintained comity in the Congress, as is the tradition. They absolutely were polite to Bush when Bush came to address a joint session.

I think you're pretending that the Dems did something as classless as the GOP did tonight .... but that is simply not true.

Rep Joe Wilson, R, of South Carolina is an asshole.

It is quite a few of the GOPers in the House currently, but this thread is just about one.

Rep Virginia Foxx, lying cretin who spoke about death panels on the floor,
and Rep Michele Bachmann, lying cretin who lies about everything on the floor,

can also be counted on for garbage.

No, I know. I never said they spoke out impolitely to Bush during an address to a joint-session.

But based on what I've heard before from the Dems, I know a big deal would not have been made about it.

Let me clarify. You cannot mandate for people to not be assholes. It's legal, it's their right. It does not mean that people should be assholes, only that they have that right.

In this case, I think just quietly noting that this guy made an ass of himself is the best thing to do, and not make a big deal out of it. As you have seen, the way you expressed yourself gave people room to criticize your comments.

GOP Rep. Joe Wilson: Presidential Heckler

President Barack Obama’s address to Congress this evening was moving along fairly smoothly until he pledged that there was nothing in the legislation that would provide health care to the millions of illegal immigrants residing in the nation.

A cry of “You lie!” was audible from the Republican side of the aisle. The Associated Press reports that the heckler was South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson.

“It’s not true,” the president responded to the outburst, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, seated behind the president, offered her mother-of-five glare towards the Republican side of the chamber. First Lady Michelle Obama was seen shaking her head from side to side.

While lawmakers may have become accustomed to that kind of language during the contentious town hall meetings in August, Wilson’s outburst was uncommon for a joint session of Congress, where decorum usually reigns.

A spokesman for Wilson did not immediately return a request for comment.

Some moron called half the country liars in his speech before a joint session of Congress.

I never said it was illegal, and I'm not looking for a mandate.
There are customs, and there is decorum. Asshole violated both.

I don't expect to not be critiicized, they can have at it.
That doesn't mean I will just ignore the behavior, it's atrocious.

And if a Dem had done it to Bush, they'd have been outraged!
(See Chicks, Dixie - and they weren't elected to anything)

I laughed hard at that line.

Oh, I agree. I just think underplaying it is a better reaction than overplaying it. If we overplay it, we end up looking like the hysterical right.
