Socialism for the Uninformed

I'll entertain your idea about my logic. Please tell me more.

Why don't you tell me what backs up your clam that the military is a socialist idea. Claiming landlords is socialist is just as baseless as your military claim, which of course was my point.

My question to you is do you think the opposite is true? Name me some BAD things about capitalism.

No I dont think the opposite is true since that would be over simplifying and generalizing a very complicated subject. Just as there are different types of socialism the same is true for capitalism; unfettered capitalism, for a example is bad. One of the biggest mistakes that people make when comparing capitalism and socialism is that the two are not comparable since one is a type of economy (capitalism) and the other (socialism) is a full system of governance.

Landlords are actually capitalists. I claim the military is a socialist endeavor because taxes pay for our military, and the taxes are raised from the people. In turn our military pays to house, feed, clothe and train our troops from the money it receives in taxes.

Since you could not name even one problem with capitalism I have a list for you. It these problems are not dealt with correctly capitalism fails and it has failed us multiple times.
Inequality

The benefits of Capitalism are rarely equitably distributed. Wealth tend to accrue to a small % of the population. This means that demand for luxury goods is often limited to a small % of the workforce

Monopoly Behaviour

A free market allows firms to gain monopoly power and exploit customers, through charging higher prices. Firms often gain monopsony power and pay lower wages to workers. For example, in the nineteenth century American rail-roads often exploited their monopoly power in setting higher prices.

Immobilities

In a free market, factors of production are supposed to be able to easily move from an unprofitable sector to a new profitable industry. However, in practice this is much more difficult. E.g. a farm worker who is made unemployed cannot just fly off to a big city and find a new job. He has geographical ties to his birthplace; he may not have the right skills for the job. Therefore, in capitalist societies we often see long periods of unemployment and recession.

Good post.

Bad post. Couldn't resist getting a little dig in, could you?

I honestly just can't think of anything else that explains their behavior.

You seem to be just using me for your whipping post. I tried to repel you obvious leading question but you went ahead with it anyways now you are just in the realm of a strawman argument. Have fun attacking capitalism if that is what you are here for. But I only pointed out that the very far left says that all good things are attributed to socialism and all bad things are attributed to capitalism and it is propaganda. I didnt say that it was the opposite at all, you made that crap up and wanted me to defend that which I never said or implied. So just stop right there with your overly fallacious crap story. I mean it just sounds like more typical far left dishonesty. You are not going to win any arguments being overtly dishonest like that.

Taxes allow socialism to flourish.

Did the citizens of the Soviet Union pay taxes? It would seem to me that if the government owns everything taxes become superfluous.

The use of very far left is your savior. Truth is, you get to define what very far left means. To me it means a communist or possibly an anarchist, but to you it could mean a little old lady on Social Security.

What does very far left mean to you?

I don't know. In fact, I'm going to look into that. I do remember an apocryphal joke that circulated back then: "We [Soviets] pretend to work, and the authorities pretend to pay us."

Good question.

Fair enough. All taxes do is allow socialism.

Wrong again, taxes serve a function of many different capacities. Socialism relies on taxes, but the idea of taxes was never exclusively a socialist concept. Kings used taxation quite a bit in their monarchies. But it doent make any sense to say that all that taxes do is allow monarchies.

I believe that capitalism only works when its problems are addressed but when that is done it is better than the alternatives. You call it "attacking capitalism" but in reality it is SAVING capitalism. Social programs are a big part of saving capitalism from itself as are progressive taxes and anti-monopoly efforts. Without those it would go down in flames in short order. As I feared you seem to have the same myopic view as raving socialists.

I don't know about social programs so much but I do agree Capitalism has to be regulated. Without anti-monopoly laws, FDA, EPA, OSHA ect America would be a living hell.

Poor people are not a failure of capitalism. Blaming poor results of people on capitalism is born from a stupid utopian mindset.

Geez... I can't even agree with you without you calling me wrong.

Why didnt you just say that instead of playing games? Oh I see you want to say that I am myopic. The problem is that I didnt say what you thought I said in the first place. Hell I didnt say anything of the sorts. You just made that crap up and tried to pin it on me and you continue to do that crap now, even after reading the post you are replying to. FFS comeback to reality dude.
