Re: So what is this "Cloudstrike" thing Trump spoke of in the Ukraine call "transcript"?
Maybe it was related to a long ago debunked right wing conspiracy.
The conspiracy theory meant to help Trump: The DNC hack that resulted in the DNC email being stolen that later helped turn the 2016 election
- Was not actually a hack, it was an inside job!
The genesis could have been anything...crazies, try-hards, pro-Trump strategists, who knows. but they jumped on the idea that the DNC did NOT hand over their entire physical server and all its private contents related to the Democratic party, to the FBI.
Crowdstrike, who was hired by DNC to lock it all down and find out what happened, gave the FBI (and lots of other independent organizations), cloned data to verify the forensics themselves. It's a long investigation/story, but everyone knew Russia was doing this, it was going on around the world, at other U.S. sites, and the DNC was just one of many hit...but it got through with malware.
The catalyst for this CT is from VIPS, whose claims were published by The Nation.
The Nation later had to publish a correction (because it was nonsense) But once that fire starts, the stupids don't listen.
But keep in mind, this was also before the Mueller indictments of the Russians for the hack.
Now we have the U.S. government detailing the forensic chain of events and traffic for what servers, ISP, etc., were used to conduct the hack and extract the emails. It's detailed in the indictment of the Russians for hacking.
With this level of detail, it's fully known what occurred, and the idea that it was an "inside job" goes absurd, to no one in their right mind would have listen...sort of absurd. Remember, the theory was that it was an inside job AND the server details had to be faked to the FBI and the many other (7?) independent expert groups that verified the forensics.
The kicker of the CT theory was that since the FBI was not handed the physical server (because it had DNC emails and no political group gives up their servers..see Hillary's emails), but the FBI agreed it was acceptable...that this means it was a COVERUP!
Now that the full forensic chain of events and ISPs, etc., is known, the idea that the server itself was how it was stolen, is absurd, since they know how it was accessed externally, what servers the Russians used to access it remotely, which ISP they traveled over, etc. Remember, this is national security of the highest levels in a Republican administration, the idea that they are all 100% wrong is like moon-landing-faked crazy.

They of course try to CYA the whole thing, it takes a while to pick out where they admit they erred.
As part of the editing process, however, we should have made certain that several of the article’s conclusions were presented as possibilities, not as certainties. And given the technical complexity of the material, we would have benefited from bringing on an independent expert to conduct a rigorous review of the VIPS technical claims.
Oops.
But the faithful still believe!!! Russia didn't do it!!!
