Recap of how it started...

Well here we go... gotta do it. Back to vet today with one other kitty to get advice on path forward. Eyes still a bit messed up but getting better.

Certainly underweight at just about a pound. Feel being a runt, not getting her fill. Caught her back in a concealed spot of their 'housing' last night eating bird feathers... 😔

Squinting here, but looking much better opened up.

Getting comfy and dozing off.

Now to try and re-home the rest somehow.

Our local shelter has a "barn cat" rescue program. Works really well in these types of situations.

Congrats. My wife did the same two days ago with a rescue from our local shelter.

Meet eight week old Cassie, the latest addition to the MD household.

That’s Mrs MD’s hand in the picture.

Housing a kitten from a feral cat mother can be really hard. It takes a lot of patience and space and willingness to create a proper environment for them.

All under control. Handled and returned for to litter for about 2 weeks.

Now wants to live on my shoulder like a parrot, then nuzzle up and purr with the scratching. Think it's warming up to the situation.:)

We've been feeding outdoor cats for 10/15 years. 1 of our house cats is from a litter from one of the stray cats... Funny story.. We have a stray cat living in our cellar.. Lol.. He/she(not sure) gets in and out of the cellar through the foundation.. That's cats... We spend at least $100+ a month feeding the stray cats..

Thats so cool. My cat was always really skittish and full wiling to use her claws. When i tried to play with her for the first time, she took the toy and growled but you know what i keep her for the moments when she is kind and she licks my face lol.

These are the 4 feral kittens I’m currently taking care of (their mom was hit by a car a couple weeks back)

The 2 black ones already have a home together lined up.

Working on homes for the tuxedo and grey ones.

They’re probably about 5 weeks now? Almost ready for spay/neuter and their forever homes. No longer feral 😂😂😂. They love the inside domestic life now.

I will say more of a dog person, as is wife, but an animal lover in general.

Now she's laughing and calling me the Animal Whisperer while the kitten puts its ass in my face.

Bad kitty!
:ROFLMAO:

Kittens are hysterical. And absolutely fearless. These run all over my dogs like they’re in charge. And my cat looks at them like “oh no…these are NOT staying here” 😂

Do you have the KMR formula? Or probably the KMR2 at that size?
Was looking for some kind of 'milk formula' at Petsmart while even phone searching. Found no employee on floor at moment and said F it.

Vet felt old enough, with teeth development and all, could move on to preferred cat food. If wanted, to supplement with such.

She's liking more than bird feathers.

Definitely better than feathers 😂😂

If baby kitty will eat the solid food - that’s awesome!

These are not quite at solid food yet. They’re eating wet food and drinking the formula from the saucer. But at least I’m now past the bottle feeding 4 kittens every several hours phase 😂

That was…chaotic 😂

What an adorable little kitty. Congrats on your newest family member.

PSA: Make sure they're around dogs with low predatory and territorial instinct. All dogs have some but some dogs are famously sweet (Golden Retrievers, for instance) and others are more naturally predatory and territorial, which doesn't mean they're bad dogs. Just means they need to have their natural instincts respected and reckoned with more.

Absolutely!

My 70 lb female silver lab is actually afraid of them 😂😂😂. (She’s also afraid of her own reflection in a mirror 😂🙄)

I keep a very close eye on my other female that’s a mutt. She can go either way with cats, so we keep them pretty separated.

My male lab is 13.5 years old and could not care less. He’s dealt with lots of kittens and they can crawl all over him (and do). He lets them curl up and sleep with him. This isn’t his first rodeo with bottle baby kittens - I’ve rescued and fostered several groups in his lifetime and he knows the drill and is good with them.

Lost our 'predatory' Black Lab last spring... 15 1/2 yo Toy Yorkie still around, but not well. 😔

All contingencies for animal well being considered.. No attitude allowed. Kitty crated at moment and rather comfy after a full belly.

Yeah labs and retrievers are usually chill dogs. Dogs that are small in stature and not particularly pugnacious are also probably safe to have around. Dogs that have been bred for aggression, such as Rottweilers, terriers, etc. may not be a good choice. Pit bulls can actually be very sweet dogs and when they go off the rails, it's often because they were mishandled and became rescue projects. But they still have instincts and will occasionally kill cats and other pets because of something that triggers a response. By no means are pit bullies the only ones.
