So we caved and took in a kitty.

Yeah labs and retrievers are usually chill dogs. Dogs that are small in stature and not particularly pugnacious are also probably safe to have around. Dogs that have been bred for aggression, such as Rottweilers, terriers, etc. may not be a good choice. Pit bulls can actually be very sweet dogs and when they go off the rails, it's often because they were mishandled and became rescue projects. But they still have instincts and will occasionally kill cats and other pets because of something that triggers a response. By no means are pit bullies the only ones.
Yep - my one mutt may have some pit in her and/or another terrier breed. I don’t trust her around smaller animals of any type just because I never want her to do something I’d regret her doing 🤷‍♀️

The labs? The only reason they’d hurt anything is just because of their size and accidental injury from being clumsy. The silver is still in her teenager stage and all lanky, etc and still has no real appreciation of her size. And my old man isn’t hurting a flea at this point. His favorite place is his memory foam bed, and he’s willing to share it. 😂. He’s truly the best dog I’ve ever had - I dread the day we have to say goodbye to him.

My Black Lab rescue 'mix'(?) wanted to kill everything, otherwise, a big baby dog.

Toy Yorkie, little dog syndrome. In her day, would tear you apart!:ROFLMAO:

Such pretty markings and colorings.

Have you picked a name?
Up in the air at the moment. I about named her TeeVee cause she sits on my shoulder and watches. Was watching the TV first day I took her to the vet. :ROFLMAO:

Live in Mom suggested Patches. Meh... There's enough Patches around.

Maybe Cali for Calico?

Doesn't really matter. Just say kitty kitty. Probably just do what it wants anyway.😁

Pixel?

calypso?

But yeah…cats are their own beings. You don’t own a cat…a cat allows you to take care of them and serve their needs 😂

She is adorable! How sweet that she is cozying up to you.

Get her a toy. Maybe eventually she will turn into a dog and start doing this for you like our Bugsy. He does a dinner and matinee show. We hear him meowing loudly from upstairs when we are eating and then he proudly brings his toy downstairs to us and drops it in front of us.

Should have one adopted out to brother tomorrow.
Things tend to work out once you show an 11 yo girl kittens. She wants to collect them all! :ROFLMAO:
So do I.

It's taken a year, but I do have a feral cat that has adopted me and actually comes in the house now and hangs out (but the door must be open, or he freaks out). He's a silver tabby with a large head, and I think he was intended to grow very large. From his behavior (showing his spotted belly, for example), we can tell that he did belong to somebody when he was a baby and then was dumped.

I live outside the city limits of a "college town," so I'm sadly familiar with dumped animals and have learned the tragic way that you can't feed and care for them all. Butch was clearly somebody's baby...and then the semester ended and the 'rents said, "You're not bring that cat home," and this poor guy was left to fend for himself. He basically has no teeth from eating rocks and whatever he could. 😿

I can't help that. He will never go hungry again, not ever. It's almost time for the chop-chop--I've been afraid of his panicked freakout when put in a carrier. When he comes in the house, he hops on the table and just sits and lays his cheek against mine. And whoever heard of a feral cat who chooses affection over food? This is new to me, but you can see why we love him and are so grateful that he's chosen us.

One homed. Almost had a two-fer! She wanted both I can get my hands on at the moment. Bad Daddy! :ROFLMAO:
B&W one top right has a family. 5th one in hiding.

Enticing with some food and starting to get the trust of one of the others.

You can let her decide. We had a COVID kitten that my wife's coworker rescued; he's full cat now. My wife tried a lot of names, and he responded to Rascal by perking up and squeaking at her. He also fittingly responds to asshole since it sounds similar.

To @BirdinHand's comments about kittens being fearless, he was the most food aggressive kitten I've ever seen. He stole half a grilled cheese from my wife and took it under the bed out of reach to scarf it down. He also walked off multiple tables while watching food and not his feet.

He's generally a great cat, minus the asshole moments, and loves snoozing cuddled up against our chests at night. @Chock Full o Nuts Hope your little one ends up being a great addition too.

Settling in, getting a bit rambunctious. Wants to scope out and paw at everything. That door trim did nothing to you! :ROFLMAO:

But she's very gentle. Starting to snooze on blanket with our old Yorkie Little Bit. Think she knows Bit is on her last stretch...😔
Curious but keeps her distance.
