Why can Scotland not do like Canada and have the Queen as a figurehead (since she does spend an awful lot of time there) but for all intents and purposes operate as an independent nation?
It sells a lot of crap and can be entertaining. That's some value.Screw the monarchy - all it does is suck cash from the people and provide no value.

Actually they do quite a bit and have more value than most people realize.
Well the people of England tried the concept of becoming a republic after the English civil war, England did not like the version of a republic being espoused by Oliver Cromwell and the puritans. From parlimentary monarchy to republic, then back to parlimentary monarchy again.
Scottish Independence: Queen Remaining Head Of State Would Be 'Up To The People' Says Aileen Campbell
What a kop out from the SNP! This quote stands out for me,
"They clearly want a referendum and a republic and the only thing stopping them from saying so is the knowledge that the Scottish people are comfortable with and support the monarchy and that by being honest about their intentions support for independence would slump even further.
"Scotland is facing its biggest decision for 300 years and the public deserve absolute clarity on what a separate Scotland would look like rather than the First Minister and his party contradicting each other over such a crucial issue."
So what's it going to be Mr Salmond are you going to be a republic or not?
For Scotland, the monarchy would likely be a token figurehead only, since their rule would have no affect once Scotland gains her independence.
Screw the monarchy - all it does is suck cash from the people and provide no value.
And the English mandate was also to rule the world, and that didn't work out, either.
What's your point?
Screw the monarchy - all it does is suck cash from the people and provide no value.
Normally a monarchy brings in more cash than it costs. They bring in loads of tourism and loads of business contacts.
That is very much a fairy tale.
No, it is not a fairy tale. It could be that the UK monarchy is much more expensive but the Dutch monarchy makes loads of money for our country.
That is complete nonsense.
and do you have figures to back this up? You realise that the royals bring in over 100 million annually for tourism and royal events like theDiamond Jubilee celebrations generated billions of money for the struggling economy. Through merchandise, eating out/ drinking on the bank holiday weekend etc.
The idea that the British tourist industry is dependent on the royals is ludicrous. As are the "figures" you cite.
Every country is free to choose the form of government it wants. But nothing changes the fact that monarchies are very expensive and inherently anti-democratic.
this is an example of how we spend money during major royal events like last years jubilee which helped boost the economy
Queen's Diamond Jubilee: Brits Will Spend £823m On
Generally they bring in about £176M in tourism money not including special events etc.
Also given the fact we are a democracy why does It matter if we decide to keep our royalty as well? May I ask where you are from?
