Its my understanding rje lettwr sent to him gave him 7 days to pay up or he could fave some of the charges
 
I hope the city goes through with the suit, then we can finally see the evidence about the fake hate crime scheme Smollett did, but got away with because of his contacts with the DA.

They should pay him... the publicity that Chicago has received is immense. This crusade to make Jussie look bad is getting really disgusting.

I agree that the city should be able to recoup its costs assuming they can prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was an intentional hoax.
 
There will be a little bit of wrangling and denials, a quiet covert deal to pay a few thousand bucks, and this will eventually be swept under the rug.

I think Chicago is making a mistake in seeking financial remuneration. They need to seek the FBI's help in the assault case and pursue the real attackers. Just because the city attorneys have buried it does not stop the fed from pursuing charges via civil rights violations. Smollett insist that the attack was real. Time for the feds to engage. We cant have racist attacks on our streets unanswered.
